I agree, but the OP didn't get backdoored here.  He got the games he wanted then when he went back for more the seller raised his prices after someone notified him.  That's a different situation... still a douchey move but not HOS worthy IMO.

Just saying if you really want to know, I am sure you could find out.

You'd be surprised, sometimes when I'm watching an item that gets ended early on eBay I immediately ask the seller who bought it and they are very relucant to release this information.  I never tried a financial reward though, mostly because I'm just curious and not bitter.

I'm just wondering why you would ask that to begin with as it's kind of none of your business. Not trying be hateful, I just don't know why it would matter to you.

No I totally disagree. This person needs to be in the HOS. He/she knew the deal was in the works, and went out of his way to track down who it was and tell them not to sell it to a person at a certain price. Total duchebag and needs to be in the HOS.

Whether or not they get the icon, it certainly would deserve mentioning in the HOS thread.

It's none of anyone's business what games Bronty needs but everyone asks.  Its none of anyone's business what MRN paid for the first SE but everyone asks.  There's no harm in asking a question out of curiosity, the worst someone can tell you is no.

I thought the HOS was intended for scammers, and I fail to see the scamming in this instance.  No one side dealed and took the games, they only informed the seller of their "worth".

Hording is a douchebag move and people seem to have no problems with that.

I'm pretty sure confirmed scammers always get banned.

The HoS is a little more all-encompassing to cover anyone who might be a true pain the ass to deal with, or otherwise needs to be watched out for.

Dan, Dain, or Jason would all be fine.  Regardless though, I would suggest you not post the email here unless the higher-ups give the green light.

What happened to you is absolute BS, but this has potential to spiral into a ruthless lynching.

So wait a second, the other guy messaged the seller to say they were worth more only so they could buy them himself?  Something doesn't add up.  If they were going to backdoor you they would have just grabbed them at $40 a pop rather than pay hundreds extra.

    pmed  Dan about the email.

  • Some people are just that honest of a buyer Jone. I know I've felt reall really bad more than once for paying someone far less than the value of something, especially kids selling stuff at their parents booth at the flea market. Happened just lately couple kids were selling GBA carts at $2 a piece and I snagged the Pokemon carts. Couldn't help but at least pay them a few extra bucks.

Is it possible that whoever bought them may have been like "yeah I heard about this at nintendoage.com" and dude just found the thread from there? I mean, he was smart enough to post on craigslist so browsing a forum is exactly rocket science in comparison.

Either way dude is still a prick that backdoored you no matter how much he paid for them.
  • Good news the person who backdoored me is not a member here. I just ask Dan if i could post the email here also.

That's great to hear.  As much as it sucks to have that happen to you, it's nice to know that it wasn't a member of the community.

Hording is harder to prove.  Also that's not the topic here.

The person went out of there way to inform the other person about the carts. By doing that , he / she stuck their nose in a place it didn't belong. It wasn't their transaction. This kind of behavior deserves to be in HOS. If there isn't a place for it currently, I believe that a new column in that topic need to be introduced to prevent this kind of behavior.

Just for everybody's knowledge, i consider any action that interrupts anther transaction by 2 other people as " Backdooring". It doesn't matter if the person ends up buying the game or not. By saying " the person didn't buy it" is just an excuse.

    Just my opinion.

  • we obviously just need a HOD (or HODB)

Well in my humble opinion, if you snooze you lose.  I feel bad for the OP but he had a chance to clean this guy out.  Whenever you find someone with a stash of goodies, you clean em out and take it all.

The OP bought some games then decided to go back at a later date and they were gone.  It's a sad situation but it is also his own fault.  What if the seller just decided to put them on eBay within a couple of days anyway?  This thread wouldn't exist and no one would think twice about it.

About a year ago now, there was a guy called "completethelist" who had a TON of NES Sealeds for sale.  I got MUSCLE, Mario is Missing, BT/DD and a few others.  I was truly limited by funds at the time and spent around $500.  Next thing you know, mctak (Kate) bought off the entire rest of his stock about a week or two later, though it was mostly picked through.  I would have liked to have gotten his Lolo2 and Lolo3 Sealeds, but it's my own fault for snoozing.

Does that make her some evil backdoorer?  No, it's a free market and just because you found a seller first doesn't mean you are entitled to their items.

If the OP had already PAID for the items, then that's a completely different story.  He's snoozed, he lost, end of story.
  • I agree with jonebone. He should have bought them all at once. It's a little crass, but as he said, you snooze you lose.
  • it wouldn't bother me if he made a deal and finished the transaction. Afterwords, somebody asks to buy them. That is one thing. You snooze you loose. But in this case the guy that contact had no interest in buying them. His sole purpose was to raise the price. I believe the OP had all intentions of going back and picking them up.

That's why I suggested only spamming him if it wasn't connected...if we found a username for the person it would've made it easier to not deal with them in the future image

  • I've advised Steve against making the email public. Let's move on from this unfortunate circumstance, thanks for all your support and kind words.

Sucks what happened, but there's no justifiable reason to retaliate in my opinion.

Let's keep NA positive and bring something away from this thread, other than blind hatred for a faceless stool pigeon.
