Help!! I have an Odyssey 2 I need to test....but I dont know how to connect it to a TV :(

So, I recently picked up an O2. The connections it comes with are a VHF connection that have 2 u-like prongs that you are supposed to be held by screws in the older tv's.

Is there a way to convert this so it can be used on a newer TV? I just want to test the system. Thanks.

  • yeah, go to radioshack with what you have and say you need to connect it to a new tv.

also, if you are looking to sell an O2 good luck. You might be best just giving it to goodwill image

    these are a tough sell
  • It has the box, and 11 CIB games. I picked it up for $10, Im sure someone will want it. By the way, radioshack suggested I go to gamestop. I got pissed, and told the lady she wasn't qualified for her job.
  • telling someone they aren't qualified for their job is a real good way to get what you want.
  • ^^ ya thats what he needs, and if it was obvious that the lady wasn't gonna give him what he wanted or at least try to help i would have done the same thing
  • Kids these days... Remember the golden rule.

I see what you are saying, but you should have been on the phone. You would have been pissed.

I said, "Hello, I have a vintage gaming system, like an atari, and it has VHF connection. I have a new samsung plasma tv, and i was wondering if you had an adapter to connect it."

She replied, cant you, um like use rca cables or something?

I replied - No....you cannot. It is a VHF adapter. Do you know what this is?

Oh yea, its like the connector for the system or something right?

I said yes....I need a converter to connect it to my samsung.

She replies "Oh..its a video game thing...I dont think we have anything like that here, we have rca cables and coax cables and stuff".

I said - Is there an older employee that may know what I am talking about?

She replied - No I am the manager. You should try gamestop.

I replied... "Are you serious? The oldest system they sell is a game cube. Im looking for an item for an atari..."

She replies "Well, like, they sell game system parts and stuff right?"

At this point, I politely told her she was unqualified as a manager and hung up the phone.

I then called another radio shack, and it sounded like a 12 year old boy answered. He was giggling like a school girl. I asked him the question, he played a long like i knew what i was talking about, then he goes...umm yea, I was just kidding I have no clue what you are talking about. Good luck though!

Ridiculous how unprofessional that place has become.
  • And that ebay listing doesnt look like what I have. It actually is two wires, with u-shaped ends (I remember actual screws holding these in place on the tv). It says on the box connect to VHF.

Let me see if I can snap a pic. I should have just came here before calling around. image
  • If you just want to test it you can use a nes rf All you have to do is remove the 3 screws form the bottom and unplug the orginal cable and plug your nes rf in
  • wow this was a pain in the ass to look up. i think you want something like this

    http://www.summitsource.com/product_info.php?ref=1&products_id=8191

prongs from the console screw down to this dude and it pushes onto the coax connector on the back of the tv.

edits: oh, and my solution when i got an atari was to buy a 1984 model 10" tv from goodwill. has both the prong style and coax connector and it's in color to boot!

THATS IT!!! Well, Im going to give the "free" nes rf adapter a try, but this would certainly be good to store in the database search engine for someone else looking for this part.

Great searching lincoln image I looked for a solid 15 minutes and couldnt find anything.
  • i knew i just saw one of this around here. i was looking for this as an example

that one's a little pricey for every day use though image
  • Yup image here is a cheaper one than summit's. Called a Game Switch Signal Converter 75-300 ohm.

  • Alex, that plug i linked you up to will work. Just plug it in to the back of the wire coming out of the O2, hook it to the RF on the back of the tv and make sure the channel is set to 3 or 4.

  • ^ ahh okay, so bypass the module then. I see now, thanks!
  • yes, you don't need a module for these.
  • Good information on this thread. Always nice to see people working out a solution (or better yet, multiple solutions).

I like threads like this because they make me feel young.  I couldn't pick an Atari / Odessey / Intellvision or even a Master System out of lineup.  Anything pre-NES doesn't exist to me image
  • ^open yer horizon to new and strange systems. my favorite oldie with lotsa golden hits is the Atari 8-bit computer (my drug of choice is the Atari 800xl - simply one of a kind!). There are a lot of great titles on diskette that never saw the light of day on anything else. Also a lot of rare stuff that people pays retarded moneyz for.
