Can someone help me diagnose what is wrong with my Genesis Model 1?

last time I played was a couple of years ago, yesterday I opened it up and cleaned it.
I no longer have the original RF or AC adapter for it, but I used the NES RF and AC to try it out (they are working cause it works well with the NES).

But I get no picture, I have made a video of it and uploaded on youtube to show the problem, hopefully someone can help me out.

  • The nes ac adaptor is well...ac. The genesis needs a dc input. You probably fried it dude.

edit: clarification for not tech people. Most "ac adaptors" take the ac power from the wall and convert it into 9v dc....the nes adaptor just scales it down to 9v ac.
  • Lucky for you that you can replace that console for $5
  • oh crap, I hope its not fried, since it still turns on.
  • i tryed to do the same thing, but it didnt fry it, it just didnt work, if you get the genisis adaptor you will be fine
  • If you're lucky theres a diode in there for this kinda stuff. If not you probably blew the 7805 regulator (I think genesis runs on 5v) ...relativly easy part to replace to.

edit: judging by tacolinowest's respons it probably has a diode in there.
  • but does the RF from the NES works fine then? I only need the genesis ac adaptor?
  • The rf should be fine. (should be...it might have troubles like it does when you try it on an atari 2600 )
  • ^Usually third party AC adapters are made cheaply. You should try to get a real one if you can !
  • man my genny did the same thing

it worked all good for a few then it took a dump

but the only good thing about the genny is Shadowrun

    GL with your problem
  • just buy a new genesis.
  • do you think the genesis is now toast? or using the proper ac adapter will fix things?

I've always used my Nintendo adapter with no problems.  Maybe I'm asking for it.
  • Just want to update the new power adapter arrived and the genesis 1 still lives!!!!
