Autographs - Cart or Box?
So, I want to start trying to get my NES games autographed by the people shown on them. Do you get them to sign the cart, or should you have them sign the box?
My two thoughts are this: 1) The carts have a small label, so there is not a lot of room. But, it would be cool to have the cart signed. Plus, if you have it CIB, you have to show them seperately. 2) The box has much more room for an autograph, and it would be a nice display in a clear case.
Of course if you are mailing it somewhere, the box is cheaper to mail. And I think there are some that there is a picture only on one or ther other. Maybe only the box, or maybe only the cart. In those cases the choice is obvious.
So, what does everyone think?

I would say box though. That way you can play the cart and not have to worry about it rubbing off + you can still have a nice display.
I say have them sign the fron of the cart, somewhere other than the label... nice and big, with a Sharpie. Then display it in a case with your signed cart leaning against your nice minty box.
Who ya gonna get to autograph a game... Mike Tyson or something? Hey - why not have him bite it instead? People may doubt the authenticity of an autograph, but tooth marks can be verified against dental records...
Kinda pissed that it's in storage now though...coulda got Leonard Nimoy to sign it this year
I would definitely go cart. Good, quality boxes are so much harder to find than nice carts. If you start having people sign your stuff, and then decide down the road that it was a stupid idea, you'll regret having writing on the boxes WAY more than you will the carts.
I agree totally here, I've been able to get permanent marker off of cart labels no problem, and no damange, the box, damn near impossible to do that. I would prefer an autograph somewhere else than the label though, oddly it seems tougher at times to get it off the cart plastic though which is weird to me.
Another thing to consider: have them autograph an acrylic case for the box, there's many safe, reversible options, better than the actual box itself.

Off topic I know but... what did you use to get the permanent marker off the carts?
I only have one signed, but figured the cart would be the best place to put it.

Did you get this done in Vulcan? That's a good idea, man.

Wouldn't a box signature increase it's value for this reason? Knowing that it's removal is impossible without somehow compromising the quality of the box makes it more permanent. Haha, isn't that why people get signatures

It depends, if the game/box is rare and valuable without the signature is what I was getting at. I would have no problem having a box autographed that was less than $100, however no way in hell would I have a Stadium Events box autographed. A potential buyer down the road, might not want the sig, or you might eventually change your mind and think, boy that was stupid.
If you have no proof, it probably adds zero value.
Also keep in mind, you probably will need some sort of verification, Wiz having a picture taken, great idea.

If anything, without proof the value would DECREASE.
