  • Emulators are legal.

Roms are not unless it's a dump you made yourself, from a cartridge you own. Or it's a release from one of our homebrewers, distributed for test or wide release with their consent.

It's never safe to run any program you get randomly from the net, always protect yourself.

I use nestopia for the homebrew releases that I test, and nothing else. I own all the games I want to play, and play them on original hardware.
  • virtualnes.com is all online so you dont have to download anything

    NERD!

I do the same, although I do emulate games for certain purposes (mostly writing).
  • I use an NES emulator on my PSP when I travel. I only download roms of games that I own though. I would like to learn how to dump roms in the future though just for the hell of it.

  • Yeah, that picture...*vomits all over keyboard*
  • FCEU is the best NES emulator.
  • >>where do i get the best one
There is no 'best one'. But FCEUX, Nestopia and Nintendulator are, as far as I know, the best ones right now.

    >>is it legal to own one
    Yes.

    They're safe. They're VERY safe.

Getting ROMs, on the other hand, may lead to spyware. Depends on the site and the download. They might not be trying to just give you free games!

  • I did NOT want to see that first thing in the morning....
  • Oh god...I feel an Event Horizon moment comming on after that picture.
  • I think I'm going to be sick......
  • Why did I click this thread.
  • one has to wonder two things ... what was one searching for in order to unearth such a picture and two why would you take additional time to share that picture with others
  • THAT is proof roms are not safe....

  • I use emulators for portable consoles (Sometimes the NES games are better...), and I also use them for checking games out-- Astynax may only be $3 at Play N Trade, but I'm sure as hell not going to buy it until I know that I like it.
