Need advice on selling complete set

I am moving in a couple of weeks into a smaller place. I have a complete NTSC licensed set minus SE and a second set that I am about 200+ games into. I am going to keep the second set because I enjoy collecting but I want to sell the complete set so it doesn't sit in storage. What is the best way to go about this, sell as a set or break it up. I know if I break it up I will be stuck with hundreds of commons that are near impossible to get rid of. Of course I would like the best price for them, but I also need them gone before I move. Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Sell the choice items separate, and put all the common stuff (anything below R5 would be a good start) as a lot and sell it to one of the resellers for $1-3/cart. You'll lose money, but your higher value stuff can (and probably will) make up a good chunk of it. Just don't expect to make anything if you're selling in a hurry.
  • take out the super rares and sell the rest in 100 game lots or something.
  • I think the complete loose set will fit in two large shipping boxes (generously), if you're thinking about piecing it off to get the most what's the problem with just bringing it all with? All the commons you can bulk off at $2/cart and the uncommons/rares list individually and sell over the course of a few months.
  • i would be willing to buy your complete set entire if the price was right
  • Parting out would be the best way to go and make the most money. Try selling on NA first before eBay, their rate increases lately are ABSURD.

I would sell rares one by one, like SE, F2, Samson, Panic, Bonk, etc. Then I would bundle sets together like Ad Isle 123, Mario 123, DW1-4, TMNT123, Zelda Link, etc.

Then put your other loose carts up either "for offer" or individually and let people pick through what they want. Finally when everyone has had their shots, bundle the rest into Medium Flat Rate boxes (25 carts) or Large Flat Rate Boxes (35?) and sell em off that way.

It becomes a choice of convenience or profit. If you just want it to be gone quickly, sell in bulk for convenience. If you want to make the most money back possible, parting out is the way to go.
  • Has anyone ever tried selling the full collection in one lot?

I dont know, but when i sold my PS1 collection and it got featured on gamesniped, I was better off selling it as a lot than getting raped with fees and shipping for each game. I tallied it up anyways, and the price difference was minimal.

I would try as a lot first, just see what you get, and if not, then piece it out. There are so many newer collectors to this hobby, that, if they were going to start on a full set they would love to just outright buy it IMO.
  • being able to say its "complete" i'd say is quite amazing. I think some rich guy/kid would fork over more. I think there was someone selling complete sets to people for outrageous prices. You wouldn't break up a boxed set of dvds would you?

  • I'm going to have to disagree with everyone. I think selling this in bulk is a much better idea. Typically, I am a break up a collection kind of guy, but those commons you won't sell- in a lot you will get a good average price per game. Decreases the high ones but increases the lower ones. And there are way more common games than rare ones. I did sell a set but it contained about 20 or so tengen games and 39 of the 40 pal release games (no devil world), and I got $5500. Also, I did not have Stadium Events. It averaged out to $7.50 a game.
  • Sell it all at once,

Why: for the hell of it, and to say you did it, hell I might go after a complete set now just to sell one.... Every day I talk myself in and out of it
