i just got done playing zelda 2 for nes and didn't really like it that much. Hevn't played the 1st one yet though. That's what brought up the question which game do you think is more fun 1 or 2?
no really good way to compare the two. Apples and Oranges because the game play is so different. Both games do a great job of constructing the world of Hyrule and both have a lot of Zelda mystique. I love them both and have played them both to death. I agree with jero, though, you cannot really base your opinion of one on the other.
Yup, it's a completely different game. Best way to decide if you enjoy it is to play it. Generally speaking though, alot of people dislike Zelda II. Don't really know why, it's a decent game. Guess it's because it's not Zelda I
Zelda 2 is an outstanding game. It gets about as much hate as most sequels that deviate heavily from a popular formula. I prefer it to the first one because it requires more skill to beat. I actually wish Nintendo would make another one like it, rather than rehashing the Zelda 1 formula over and over again. Personally, I haven't been excited about a Zelda game since Zelda 64.

Well said. Nintendo hasn't made a phenomenal Zelda game since OoT. That said, Zelda 1 & 2 are both amazing, but 2 has a lot more replayability and the combat is superior to 1. I like them both, but I definitely chose 2. People that bag on it have no idea what they're missing.

I disagree. I thought Majora's mask was very well put together, and I really enjoyed the concept of the masks as well as the concept of time. Made the game much harder if you were a completionist.
I also though Twilight princess was pretty good. I wouldn't call it phenomenal, but, a very very good game.
Zelda 1 for me... though I must admit the enemies looked much more intimidating in Zelda 2. Larger sprites made the Wizzrobes and Stalfos actually look badass.

I think an awesome hack/remake would be to make Zelda 1 in the vein of StarTropics... get the best of both worlds.

I haven't been excited about a Zelda game since Zelda Link to the Past on the SNES.
I love Zelda 2. Zelda 1 is ok. I just get board with it. Put it this way, i have beat Zelda 2 about 5 times. I haven't beaten Zelda 1 once. Now Link to the Past....... I have beaten it about 10 or more times. What a great game that one was.

I will be buying Zelda 2 soon and will have to play it for the first time. Zelda 1 is the true classic, but I hear good things about number 2 though it is very different. I would disagree about your statement though. I think wind waker is absolutely amazing(may favorite Zelda game) and every Zelda game after Ocarina of time have been great games. Majora's Mask was no push over either, but it was different.
Gun to my head, I'd pick Zelda 1, but they are both great games and both were incredibly innovative in their time. Like people above me have said, it's kind of like asking :which do you like better Mega Man 2 or Star Tropics. Both great games, but they're hard to actually compare.
i really like both of the games. zelda one is a great game and zelda 2 is awesome for the abilities and power ups. I have to admit that I really liked both of them growing up, but I was never able to beat Zelda 2 until I revisited it in college.
I played the second NES Zelda before the first. I actually never owned the first until recently. That is why I choose The Adventure of Link. For simple nostalgic reasons.

But I love Zelda 2 in it's own right, since I'm a big fan of games like Faxanadu.
