  • Sliding is how I got my copies of Megaman 7, Megaman X3, and Chrono Trigger CIB, way back in college. I'm taking a nap and my friend calls me up and tells me to get my butt over to the Blockbuster where he worked weekends. I'm like "muh?" but he tells me c'mon hurry up and drive down there. So I get there and they're clearing out old inventory, rental games and such. So I buy something stupid like gum and he slips the games into the bag. I have no regrets, I accept my fate in hell.
  • dude i don't feel self righteous, i just don't see how you can't see how this wrong. maybe i was brought up different from most, but getting "deal" like this is really no deal to me. Sorry, really not trying to fight or start something. I hope you stay around, but to me, this is wrong and along the same lines as someone changing a price tag at a thrift store.

  • By the by? Using phrases like "Immoral behaviour" really are horridly self righteous and judgemental, not to mention very unbecoming unless you are a "god" of some sort...

    Unreal...

Some of these replies reminded me to have Fox 'News' BLOCKED from our cable service for some odd reason...

EDIT:  Qix?  Like I said man, opinions are opinions, eh?   We are all allowed them as sentient beings sir!  image

And as to "staying around", no worries, I have met a handful of very decent folks here as well as made some great business associates, I wont be leaving anytime soon due to varying opinions.  image

  • To anyone in the thread, I'd be curious to hear a clear explanation of:

    (1) is stealing wrong, in general?

    (2) would you say that stealing $5 is wrong?

    (3) would you say that stealing $100 is wrong?

(4 is accepting miscounted change (in your favor) is stealing?

    (5) are low-level employees that give away inventory are stealing from their employer?

    (6) is accepting that gifted inventory accepting stolen goods?
  • This thread hurts my brain. I have so much stuff to say and points to make, but I think it will all fall on deaf ears and be a waste of time.

    *edit Nevermind

  • OK...lol...you must be right because you have been here longer, its all good. image I know how many of these forums work, my wife and I have been members of several for over ten years...these sort of "debates" usually result in ill feelings and/or a BAN, so again, I'll heed as to be able to maintain my standing and membership here. image

    Very silly all of this...

SO then, who likes CHEESEBURGERS?!?   image

  • No one is getting banned man, and I am not saying this from a MODs point of view. I will stay out of the debate, but continue if you guys want.

I'm done, there is really nothing here to "debate" since it's pretty black and white to you and me.

  • Qix, are you interested in purchasing a "slightly used" copy of Mario 64?

    image

Sorry man, I couldnt resist! Seriously, this hurts MY brain now as well! I only wanted to share the news of my purchases yesterday, nothing more. image I just dont know who gets to be the "ultimate authority" and "draw the line" as to what and what isnt 'moral'. (Thats WHY I made that yard sale analogy..I mean, the yard sale game that you bought for a quarter KNOWING that it's worth $1000 and not TELLING the seller, doesnt that make YOU 'immoral', or??)

Eh, whats it matter in the end, like I said, I dont think that ANYone involved will be losing any sleep over this, I know that I sure as hell wont! image

    CHEESEBURGERS!!!
  • no i won't either. let bygones be bygones and bungeons be those things. I hate onions and love cheeseburgers.

Also, buying a good deal that is priced accordingly isn't immoral, just my opinion image

And no on the Mario 64. I only buy sealed shit image
  • The Salvation Army by me works that way. The lady running it, sifts through the items before they even get to the shelves. Shady shit.
  • 1 - Great Finds!

2 - This is a forum and when you divulge details of a transaction be prepared to get feedback on the matter, positive and/or negative.

    3 - I like cheeseburgers.
  • "sealed shit"?!? So then you are into buying fast food burgers then? image

Salvation Army "SHADY" you say?? How DARE you! I say good DAY sir!

Qix, we agree on the doneness of steaks, and as to your 'name', Qix for the Atari Lynx is great! image

EDIT and hopefully FINAL thoughts here from me:   Now I have to go out and get a cheeseburger dammit!   That 'Five Guy' place is right next to me and I have never tried their chow, soooo....    ("Five Guys"..ehh..always sounded like a gay club to me..ha)    Also, now I need to dig out my Lynx and hope that my Qix card is still loaded in the slot!  image

  • Awesome thread!

    That is all. image
  • and i was totally joking on the penis comment. hope you know that i am still larger
  • There is a right and a wrong, saying something is less wrong than something else doesn't make it right.

Dammit I said I was DONE with this thread!!
  • Wow... shut it up guys. I don't see where's the big deal here. As far as I know you weren't in Roussimoff's shoes at the very moment the deal happened. Jonebone is totally right no matter how far you're getting into pseudo rhetorical arguments. An excess of rationality is not better than a light infraction to common order.

You got me there, I am Texan!  Which makes me always right, ha.

I don't think you did anything that most of us haven't done in one way or another.  When you look deep into anything, you will see that a lot of things we do when broken down are "wrong".  For example being on NA at work = stealing from our employers.

  • Always right you say?? NEED we bring up GW Bush here good sir?? image

On a side note, the love of my life was from Texas..yep..her mom is a Texan and her dad Persian. I used to go and stay with her, she lived in Corpus Christi...we used to go to "Whataburger" and to the ocean. (Though they pronounced it 'waterburger'..ha) I would also pick her up at the Albany airport and we would spend a week or two in a hotel...ahhh...those were the days folks! image

Well hell man, THANKS for reminding me of the one that got away!! ...anyone have a tissue??...HONK... image

Ah well, should have figured that Princess Jasmine and Marv from Sin City were NOT a good mix anyhow...

    (reaches for bottle of scotch...)

Anyhow back to cheeseburgers and "stealing" from GoodWill!! image
  • I did put Ha after stating that I'm always right.

I hate when people call it waterburger, but they have damn fine cheeseburgers.  Sorry to bring up the Great White Buffalo.

    1 yes
    2 yes
    3 yes
4 yes if you realize it, but a lot of people just shove it in their purse/wallet and don't even count it
    5 yes
    6 yes

Over the years I have had quite a few people return money that one of our cashiers gave out in mistake, I always rewarded those folks with something, usually a desert from our instore bakery (which I am authorized to do). However the percent that returned was always less than 5% of all cash variations.

I guess the bottom line is I see all this stuff differently, because I deal with it everyday at my work. Employee theft, sliding, stealing time etc. We stay as far ahead of it as we can, but you can not catch everyone.

Heck there is even a security system another company that competes with us is using to catch sliding on its own. It is a big problem in retail.

  • Just to play the flip side of the coin...

What about when an establishment overcharges you? If we define sliding as stealing from the company (which seems to be insinuated as prosecutable), then an overcharge should be stealing from the consumer.

I bought some stuff from Giant the other day that was supposed to be 6 for $10 and they rang up at $2.50 each. Due to the volume of goods I was buying, I didn't realize the error until I got home. They "stole" $10 from me (I bought 12). So I was forced to A) Waste my gas in a return trip and B) Waste personal time standing in the customer service line that could have been spent elsewhere. Neither my time nor gas were compensated.

If it is stealing in one sense then it is stealing in the other too.

It'd be stealing if they did it and refused to correct their error.  You haven't given them the opportunity to do so.
  • Just check this movie from the IT crowd about stealing:

It isn't stealing if they do it unintentionally, most stores will fix it on the spot and some companys even offer an incentive if you report the price error. As far as compensation Giant who is part of Royal Ahold who also owns stop n shop at S&S they usually give the first unit of product free and then correct the price on the rest, I imagine giant has a similiar policy.

Also you usually don't have to run right back to the store, call them tell em about it and get your $$ on the next trip, heck sometimes they can even process a credit card refund over the phone.

  • Good lord, is this STILL going on?? lol
