Yeah messiah has compatibility compared to the Yobo systems, having 21 games that don't work. I had two and they both had problems. First one sound kept breaking up, second one the fami port didnt work. Looks nice, but they are cheap as hell.

So far the best clone product I have owned is the retro duo. Built solid, and has best compatibility on the market (5 nes games dont work, and only 1 snes game). I have the fc mobile 2 as well, and I am happy with it, though I wish they made ones with bigger screens.

So you mean the manufacturer didn't find a huge stock of 3 different systems from 20 years ago, and find a way to cram them all into one little plastic box, sell them for $69 and make a profit? Darn!

    Yes I'm an ass.

    Unless you buy a Messiah!

Messiah is just as crappy as anything else. The only advantage is the wireless controllers and famicom slot. They still ended up using a cheap NOAC (NES on a chip) with all the issues other consoles have (sound channels swapped, complex mapper incompatibility).

yea we used to sell the NEX at Best Buy when it first came out.  They got returned all the time broken.
  • Whatever. I still take a Messiah over any of the others.

Messiah was essentially the first real clone we saw here in the US right?  I personally have never used an NES clone.  I own a Genesis one (GenCore...aka Firecore), and have tried the SNES side of a RetroDuo.  I hear about all the incompatibility and whatnot all the time but have never really seen how different an NES clone is to real hardware.

One of the first, I think it came out alongside the Neo Fami both in 2005. I had a device back in the day that looked like a Dreamcast controller, you could plug into your TV. It had a Famicom cart slot in the bottom. Think that was around 2004?

yea Im assuming it wont play anything with the extras chips. What was it? Mario RPG, Ballz, Stunt Race FX, Star Fox, any more Im missing?
Actually, from what I've heard, most of those should work with this.  I've heard that both it and the Retro Duo use an authentic 3-chip configuration.  They said Mario RPG won't work, but I think it's only later revisions of Mario RPG that have the lockout "feature" (that also supposedly would prevent me from playing the U.S. version on my Super Famicom even with my Super Honeybee adapter), so a 1.0 copy should work.

The Genesis and NES portion use NOAC and GOAC, but the GOAC should be perfect assuming the sound circuit is okay (but lots of clones have mixing issues that make some things more quiet than they should be), and NOACs are the product of reverse engineering, but this is supposedly a new version NOAC, so let's hope it fixes square wave issues.

I really have high hopes for this thing; it's clear some thought has gone into it.

Well as soon as I get it Ill be testing it with all 3 controllers, all 3 Game Genies, known previously incompatible games as well as at least one of each extra chip SNES games.  I have high hopes as well.
  • They just announced today its not hitting til E3...June 13th. What a crock.
  • Personally I wish someone would release a "clone" console which is really some kind of more powerful modern processor with a built in emulator (hopefully on flashable firmware). From what I've seen, emulation is doing a far better job at looking, sounding and playing like the real thing, than these clone systems. At least for the NES. I'm sure it can be done in hardware, but someone will need to create something better than the NOAC. I really dislike how NES games sound on the retro duo for example (which was NOAC like the rest of them, wasn't it?)

I guess the GP2XWiz is sort of like what I'm talking about. I wish someone would just do the exact same thing as that but make it a console. it would be cool to be able to load cartridges physically or roms from a flash card (I guess the powerpak would make that unnecessary though)
  • I just got the retron 3, just tested mario RPG and it doesn't work, castlevania 3 neither, the genesis part accepts super street fighter but sounds horrible, sonic 2 and streets of rage sound near perfect if not perfect. The NES part sounds better than the retro duo, will test more later.

Retro Twin, tried the same mario RPG cart that i tested on the retron 3 and works, castlevania 3 is not working, and the sound is more or less the same as the retro duo, will continue testing later.

It only comes with 2 wireless infrared ones, and the snes pad is a Tomee Snes clone one and its wired, its nicer than the other clones around,  and the Fake dogbone, its a Tomee one, and its damn nice! best clone controller ever, for real.  Oh and the Tomee Retro Twin comes with 2 updated snes clone pads that work and feel 200% better than the retro duo ones and I can tell you they rock.

eh since im cheap Ill just pick it up on amazon when its like $59.  Which version of SMRPG did you try cause there were 2 revisions of it?  Also they said Castlevania 3 did work for sure.  WTH is up with that?
  • Dunno, tried 2 castlevania 3 and my friend also tried his on his retron 3, also The SMRPG I tested did not work on Retro Duo and on the retron 3, but it did work on the retro twin, wich makes me think the retron 3 has the same snes hardware as the retro duo, and the retro twin has newer snes hardware.

well Super Mario RPG, at least one of the revisions 100% works in the Retro Duo as I have seen it personally. Thats why Im curious as to which revision you are trying so I can compare it to mine lol.
  • Have you tested yours on a retro duo? I dont know how to describe wich revision is since I only have that one.
  • im not sure how to differentiate. Ill have to google it but at my local PnT I grabbed their copy and threw it in their demo Retro Duo and it worked. Also here is VideoGameCentral's vid on the RetroDuo when it first came out as well, which they test Mario RPG on it and it plays fine.
  • woah, just confirmed, Super Metroid unplayable on the retron 3.. damn

    will continue testing

please elaborate? like flat out doesnt work at all?
  • Graphical glitches, you cant see your energy and It doesnt let me continue from the second door when you start at the base, tested 3 different carts and they do the same, and they all play fine on the retro duo =\
  • What is the Retro Twin btw? Pictures? Haven't heard of that one.
