Dragon Warrior IV

I have been nosing around on Ebay for a Dragon Warrior IV, complete or not. I would prefer to find it complete, although most of my other games aren't.

What I'm asking is A) Is it really worth that much (Ebay price is generally $80+) and B) If it is that much, should I bother with buying it online or should I just hope for a good find at a Yard Sale/Pawn Shop etc.?

Also, this is my first post. I would have posted on the Intro forum, but I'm kinda short on time atm.

  • Well... depends on how badly you want it I guess...

If you wait for a good deal, one will eventually turn up. I picked up the entire DW set CIB for $120 in a lot.

Finding it at a pawn shop/flea market always makes the game that much better to have.

If you are just looking to play the game, you could probably walk away with a cart only copy for under $30 within a month from eBay if you keep your eyes peeled.
  • Thanks, thats what I was thinking myself. I think I'll just keep my eyes peeled locally for now. It is kind of irritating that I used to have the game and it ended up getting swiped along with my Ghost Lion and top loader. Thanks for the help!

  • Good luck finding it locally, though... The only copy I ever found around here (in about a 5-year span) that wasn't through the Internet was at a local Rhino (since then, bought out by GameStop)...it was $39.99 there. I'm not saying it's impossible to find in the wild...just saying you may be looking for an awful long time.

You might try searching around on this forum...someone might have one fairly cheap (at least compared to eBay)... I bought my complete copy (in awesome shape) from jeffg here, paid $75 for it. And welcome to NintendoAge, as well...there are more here than just you that like Dragon Warrior IV (I'm one of them...DW IV is among my favorite games period, and it is my favorite NES game image ).
  • The game stores here have it, but its priced at $49.95.

yeah thats about what they price them at our local game shops for also
  • I have a mint DW4 cart that I would sell for $40 including priority boxed mail shipping.
  • I appreciate the offer, but I'm a little broke at the moment. I will try to scrounge up the cash though. If I get it, I'll try to contact you.
  • I got my copy from a coworker for free. image
  • Looking back, it was a horrible horrible deal, but I traded a DK jr. Math box for mine.  Cart-only :-(
  • I found an absolutely Mint CIB DW III and DW IV at the flea market for $5.00 each.  I sold them on ebay for $100.00 each.  They were so mint.  I couldn't believe it when I saw them at the flea market.
  • 100.oo each !!!!!!!!!

OUCH!! a deal like that would haunt me in my sleep.
  • About the DW III and IV cart. Nice! I rarely find a place around here that even carries NES games.

  • I think I got mine complete (At least box and manual, forget if I had the map) for $35 at Funcoland 6 or 7 years ago. Same case with 3.

    $5 each? Holy fuck!

The only NES sellers I've seen at flea markets around here know what they have and overcharge.
  • DW 3 & 4 had a sharply lower production run than 1 & 2, finding them in the wild is about as likely as finding most of the scarce high-profile licensed games like TMNT: TF, Ultima WoD, Contra Force, etc.

They're more likely to remain part of nostalgic Gen-X-ers' permanent closet collections, in addition to being relatively rare.

If you just want to play it, get the ROM. If you want to collect it, look at closed auctions, set a lowball but realistic price and snipe each one that pops up until you get one. But don't hold your breath for the yard sales this year.

    Ouch!
  • I also found my copy in the wild. While searching a flea market one booth had a box that my mom nosed around in. On the bottom was a boxed copy of DW4! It didn't have instructions though but for the $4 dollar price tag it was certainly worth it.
  • I was lucky enough to find it twice. Once at a Flea market for 3.00 along with DW 2 + instructions, and 5 CIB black box games for 3.00 a pop

(what a great day that was...)

Then I found it at a Grame Crazy for 5 bucks. I could never get it to work. (trust me, I cleaned the pins at least 100 times) So I put it on the bay and got 40.00 for it even though my listing said it didn't work!
