My gameroom is now complete...

So I normally don't get on Craigslist cause I have a tendency to spend money I don't have on things I really don't need but it just so happens that today lady luck was smiling on me and I was able to score this original World of Nintendo sign for very very cheap.  The lady I spoke with said her husband brought it home probably around 10 or so years ago and its been in her house since.  She said she was moving soon and would rather not take it with her so I made her an offer she couldn't refuse...plus I live really close to her so it was no problem picking it up.  I'm not really sure what is worth but its in amazing shape considering the age.  I couldn't find any manufacturing dates on it but it does have a sticker that says Super Brite Series and a model number of M36N.  I'm guessing its 36 inches wide by 6 or 6.5 inches deep.  I was planning on cleaning it up this weekend and was wondering if any of you that own similar signs know what I can use to clean the front.  I didn't want to use window cleaner cause of the abrasives but I have a brand new microfiber towel and I thought I could use some wax or something like that...any ideas?  Anyway, here are some of the pictures...

  • very nice sir!
  • Thanks!!! =)
  • I have the same one. Awesome sign!
  • Nice score! I picked up a Gameboy Color lightbox sign the other day which is cool, but it doesn't hold a candle to a World of Nintendo sign.
  • That thing is legit!!!!!
  • how much?
  • Very nice! If only I could find a sign like that around here :-p
  • Gorgeous! Congrats you luck dog
  • Thanks so much guys for the warm welcome and comments!!! If anyone knows what I can safely clean the front of this with I would be greatly appreciative! =P
  • How much did you score it for?
  • I got the same one. These things are awesome. Im also curious about how much you got it for. Let us know.

  • Very nice man. very nice! i've been wanting to find something like this for my room.
  • Good score, man! I have the same one, minus the seal of quality. I love it! I paid $200 for mine (also Craigslist), and think it was well worth it. It's the sign I remember most from the stores back in the day!! =)

Lol there are like 3 of us that asked, and the OP wont tell us image

I cant really say if it was a score or not, or the magnitude of the score unless a price is stated. Otherwise, yes, its a cool sign? lol.
  • damn sweet sign, wish i could get ahold of one, totally jealous, nothing like that around my location. image
  • HOW MUCH BEFORE I HAVE AN ANEURYSM. lol jk sweet sign, dunno how to clean it.
  • I have the idea that I'm going to recreate one of these signs. To what extent, I'm not sure yet. I was originally thinking of making a template and painting it on wood. But now I'm thinking I might do a reverse template, paint the negative black on some plexiglass or something, tint the remaining the respective colors, and string up some lights behind it. We'll see how much ambition I have. It's all cause I don't have the money for one of these legit ones, and I like to create stuff, so whatev.

These signs are so sweet tho. I agree with the others, we don't know how good of a find it is if we don't know how much you paid! No obligation! image
  • ha ha, my room is no where near complete, more like full, i need a bigger room , used damn near every inch of space. oh yeah, it's easier to use every inch of space, with gameboy games. LOL
  • Cool sign. You must be very happy with what you have there.
  • Haha I love how we all wanna know what was paid. That's why I spilled my beans, so others would follow suit! For anyone who has not seen one of these - they are all-steel construction save the front plastic part, over 40lbs & designed to last a lifetime. I think they are better than a neon because they are not nearly as fragile. The back steel plate, on mine anyway, also has "World of Nintendo" painted on it. It's so cool to be on a forum where so many people have these! image
  • I like it!
  • Hey everyone, sorry it took me so long to respond to this posting...my holiday weekend has been very eventful and I haven't been on the computer in a couple of days...I hope you guys had a safe and happy weekend too! =) So yeah about the price...she was asking $200 and after much haggling back and forth I ended up paying $150. I don't think I did too bad considering its condition and the fact that it still works plus she has some other Nintendo stuff that I would like to have too so I didn't want to lowball her on the first item I bought. Also, I was thinking about cleaning it with some good old fashioned soap and water...what do you guys think? =)

Good deal!  My guy was asking $230 but had just serviced it with new bulbs inside and it's basically mint condition, so we settled at $200.  I was afraid to let it sit too long, and secured that deal within less than an hour of him listing it.  I think you got a great deal my man!  I'd of scooped that up in a second - even though I already have one.  Soap and water should be a safe bet.  Dish soap maybe?  I wouldn't use anything harsh on it - you could possibly cloud the plastic side, and you most certainly don't want to remove any paint off of the painted side either.  (I'm assuming yours has a painted side like mine does too?)  I'm glad I got the sign without the seal of quality, it's a shame how much they shrunk the text over plopping on that little seal!  They really were all about that seal though back in when they made it an oval..... damn, I have such intense memories of the late 80's / early 90's Nintendo days!  image
