Like or Thumbs Up on Posts
I think either option would be a great idea!
TWO OPTIONS:
1) The "Like" button - Be able to like others posts and next to the time the message was posted it would say "3 users like this post" or however many. From there you could click on the "3 users like this post," and it would show the members who liked the post. [Similar to FACEBOOK wall posts]
2) "Thumbs Up" option - Be able to thumbs up or thumbs down certain posts that you like or dislike. On this option you are not able to see who liked, or didn't like your post, just the number counts. [Similar to YOUTUBE comments]
F.A.Q.
1) There's no need for a button of this sort, why do you think it would be useful?
Say you see a funny post from a friend, but you don't want to create a whole post to say "I lol'd @ user-name's post" or "^^^^ HILARIOUS" or you get the idea. Plus, does anyone remember my embarrassing tattoo post? You guys could thumbs down it, and you could be responsible for my pain. PS, sorry for that post, I admit I am a douche.
So... opinions?
I think it'd be a fun addition, but you may think it's useless. It's a matter of opinion I suppose.
Edited: For example, you could thumbs down this post. xD

*Edit.... But then again, I like the simplicity of these forums. The last thing we need is more buttons and semi-useless lines of text.
I couldn't care less about a thumbs up. Who fucking cares if someone made a funny post, it's not like good responses get bumped up to the top or something. What we need is a 'Karma' option. This way, all the assholes will be known as assholes wherever they troll on the forums. Makes people more aware of their actions online.

I don't really see any trolling around here.

WIN!
^ Yes, Please
My point exactly, why don't you just like his post.
Lol.
I hope you understand. PM me if you have any questions.
This is a forum, most forums don't have this option and I personally would hate it if implemented.
Here, though, we have an actual community. This kind of feature would be a really negative thing to have around, in my opinion. People will eventually forget your douchey tattoo remark (if you quit bringing it up
Similarly, we have plenty of threads in the "Everything Else" section that are on contentious topics. The ability for people who would otherwise remain silent to swoop in and "red" people they didn't agree with would serve no one, and would be no different than obnoxious hecklers during a legitimate debate.
One of your main points is that instead of just saying "hilarious" or something like that you could just hit the like button and save a post that doesn't add much. At the same time, someone might actually have something relavent to say, but instead they might get lazy and just hit the like button instead and then the conversation would grind to a hault.
Plus, like mentioned above, this would take away all responsibility for the hate/support you give to someone. If someone feels like being a dick, they go around and thumbs down every post they see from another person without anyone knowing they are the person who did it.
I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think it will ever have a place on this site.
I have to agree that this is a totally unnecessary and completely useless idea.

I see where you are coming from when you talk about negative nancy's who will go around thumbing everyone's posts down. But then again, mods could look through peoples feedback and easily find out who the culprit is.
Facebook.com is worth over $33 billion dollars. I'm sure it wouldn't be a bad idea to follow in their footsteps somewhat.
I do prefer the "thumbs up/thumbs down" (from YouTube.com) option more then the "like" system.

You're wrong on that point.
This is a forum, not a social networking site. We kick it old school without any of that Web2.0 garbage
How about a reputation button? Rep could be tallied on the bottom of someone's profile.
Not a bad idea. But I'd rather have karma over that. And for some reason people dislike the idea of karma on NA. I guess it's becoming too much like GameFaqs then.

Why do we need anything else? Forums are pretty straight fwd, and all this other stuff is just bells and whistles that don't really serve any purpose IMO.

I agree. Beyond that, I would honestly be a little pissed off if someone gave one of my post a thumbs down. It seems like it would promote unnecessary negativity. If I think someone's post is great, I'll take five seconds out of my day to type it out and let them know.
Lastly, fuck facebook.
But new advancements lead to good things. Facebook adds random shit everyday, and is more popular than ever. Regardless if you hate it or not, it's a site worth over $33 billion, and that's insanely impressive.
Case closed, it's not the best idea.

That is all well and good but FB is ran by a giant team of coders, NA is ran by 1. Everyone who is a site admin/mod have jobs (or are in school). We don't really want to be that large, cause none of us have the time to devote to deal with that many users/problems. If the site generated enough money we could "hire" people but we don't even place ads on pages trying to make money, that is not what NA is about.
