Nothing, it's just that fewer people have played it.

I read in the other thread (about relative difficulty) about how hard it was going to be, but I actually thought it was one of the easier games.  The level design was pretty forgiving, and the 1-up drop rate was insanely high (1-ups accounted for 20-30% of drops), so it was pretty rare to have to restart a level from the beginning, and since you had such a deep pool of extra lives, building up an enormous reserve of E-tanks happened after the first few levels (since you could just die and restart the boss with full life).
  • I've gotta go with Mega Man 2. I have the most fond memories of playing it and it's definitely the go to title when I just want to play around with the Blue Bomber. The only thing that bothers me about it is how frickin' long it takes for Mega Man to get equipped with the Items. Dear God, why can't that be skipped?

I wish I saw that other thread. IMO the difficulty gets harder from 6-1, 1 being the hardest.

Also, 5 is awesome. The graphics are great, music rocks, and Gravity Man's stage is awesome.
They did a lot of cool gameplay tweaks that effected Mega Man himself, like gravity in Star Man's stage.
You didn't really see that kind of thing in previous installments, (outside of being underwater).

  • Mega Man 1, which was the first one I played.
  • I thought it would be much closer than this
  • I have to vote for MM1 since it is the ONLY one I need. How I LOVE to HATE it...taunting me...can't find one for sale...
  • 2! Grew up wit it, Best music, Not to complicated, Love it.
  • Mega Man 3. Rented it quite a few times at Blockbuster.
  • Voting 5 I think it is really a tie between 5 and 3 with 2 very close behind but gotta give 5 the vote just to help it out. 6 I always thought moved kinda slow for some reason I don't think it really does but it just has a different feel from the rest
  • ^ No, 6 did move kind of slow. I think it's because in the older ones enemies were purposely placed in areas that f##k you over. In the later ones they we're only an issue if you ignored them as you could easily take out most enemies before they/you got close.
  • While my two favorite bosses of all time appear in Mega Man 2 (Quick Man and the Mecha Dragon), I like MM3 best because you get to play 8 new robot masters plus all 8 from the first game (in Doc Robot form). Also, Gamma the peace-keeping robot was a cool plot device, even if it was hopelessly predictable. The music in the room right before Gamma really exemplifies the entire classic series for me. It's a bit desperate (in the sense that Mega Man knows he's in an eternal struggle with Wily), a bit determined (to win anyway), and generally a great pre-battle theme.
  • Why are you calling Proto Man (or "Break Man") "Gamma"?
  • I really dig the first 3. I voted 3, because of the slide and far too many childish jokes about "Hard" man.

I don't see anything childish about being amused by a guy named "hard man" that fists you to death.

I don't get it either. Even "Blues" would have been acceptable, but Gamma?
The only character named Gamma I can even recollect is that robot from Sonic Adventure...
  • Gamma is actually the final boss robot thing in Megaman 3

Oh, that makes more sense.  When he mentioned distinctive music in MM3, I immediately thought of Proto Man.

I think he is getting confused because of this...
