Quick Update: Seems we have 2 defective units.. coincidence that the only 2 we opened played super metroid with glitches, we opened 2 more for testing and super metroid works ok, still Castlevania 3 is not working on those 2 but 2 defective units so far.. hum I will test all units we received tomorrow just in case.
1. Tried my SMS Genesis adapter, had to open it up, but it works on the retron 3, some minor graphical glitches can be seen while playing sms games.
2. Game Genie is not working.
3. Retron3 production units where made using old NOAC, seems some monetary issues surfaced after prototype was made, so proto can play Castlevania 3 but production units wont.
K'know, I don't have any particular beef with the clone systems but my nes top loader works perfect and doesn't have any of the sound glitches and compatibility issues. Later on down the line I might pick one up on the
any more word on this? Was considering picking up the retron3
Id have been all over it if they had used the revised NOAC that they said would play Castlevania 3, and also if it played the SNES "extra chip" games liek MMX2-3, SMRPG, etc...
hmm i watched the youtube review and it looks pretty lame, colors are off, graphics look bad on the NES? sounds messed up on NES, why cant they just make a clone that actually work 100 percent like it should. Or someone really needs to offer the modded top loaders for sale without the jailbars.
My friend actually messaged me the link to the retron via facebook yesterday. The 70 dollar price tag is pretty appealing for a 3 in 1, but everything comes with it's disadvantages.
The retro-duo still gets the job done, unless it's one of the few games it's not compatible with.
Again, I certainly love the idea of a "three-in-one" console, but it doesn't seem like ANYONE can really do it right. This was true then (Super-8 and Tri-Star 64) and now.
Yeah once someone can get one down that can play 100% of the games, isn't made of cheap chinese plastic that'll change color or brittle like eggshells, and allows the use of real pads I wouldn't even being to consider such a thing. I'd rather get the real deal and replace parts or the whole thing when it/if it comes necessary.
Original hardware is still king. These clones are junk -- they're not well made, break easy and they've got glitchy graphics and inaccurate sound. You can get a refurbished aesthetically excellent and 100% perfectly working NES system complete with two OEM controllers, Zapper, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/Track Meet cartridge and RF cable box thingie for $59.99 (+$12.99 S&H) from this outfit:
You can also get just the console only for $33.99 (+$8.99 S&H).
I bought the console only from these guys because I already had all the original accessories, and it is absolutely like brand new; probably even better. Looks beautiful, the cartridge connector never fails, doesn't grip too hard, works just like a dream. And, the game compatibility is quite astounding; 100% even. Crazy, eh?
If you want a guaranteed great NES experience and don't have an NES yet, this is the ONLY way to go. Good price, especially for all original accessories (good luck finding great condition original NES brick controllers ANYWHERE for a decent price), and unlike the ebay crapshoot, this place absolutely guarantees their merchandise. Yeah, I know, the Retron 3 will also play your SNES and Genesis games, but you're better off saving your money for OEM consoles of those as well, unless you don't mind glitchy graphics and inaccurate sound, and the fact that it might break within a month.
Amen to that entirely. Until they can make a knockoff that's 100% compatible and can take your pads while also being as durable only morons and suckers will continue to fall into buying this crap. Sure buying 3 old systems is more, but when you can get a Yobo for $50 and a NES reman/refurbed for $30-35 wtf is wrong with you man? Seriously.
I like my Retro Duo. I couldn't find a NES under $70 at the time, so I bought the Duo and I love it. Sound is off a little bit, but serves the purpose I wanted it to. Wish I had known about the above link for the original NES's lol.
