If we don't finish by the end of the year we should roll over and try to finish this one up.
Of course that doesn't mean we can't start a second list at the beginning of the year, but it would still be cool to finish up the entire list. Maybe offer double points for a game that wasn't finished the previous year.
Oh, I don't know Maydogg, I like the idea of a deadline. The whole idea is can we beat them all in a year, not just can we beat them all. I think it will be most interesting to see what games are left (looking at you Arkanoid) on Dec. 31, just to see which games were too tough/boring/annoying to be taken down.
When we start the new list, I think it will be a point of interest to try and take those games out early on.
Oh and it will be the weekend before I get near Swords and Serpents, so please someone else can certainly go ahead and take that bad boy down first...
I agree that the deadline is cool, but considering the possibility that we don't finish it would still be cool to see how long it takes us for the whole list. Imagine the scramble of everyone trying to finish that last game left. I think it would be epic.
I'm afraid that restarting from scratch will just have people playing the same games over again and the ones that were neglected this year will be neglected again. Though currently the point is moot because there's still plenty of year left for the current list.
It'll be a new list. However, with how many people have been contributing here, and how many forget, perhaps I'll offer up some small prize next year to the person with the most points, and possibly something for the person taking out the most games that didn't get knocked off the previous year. Not sure what it would be, or if I'd actually want to do it when the time comes, but it might grab more peoples' interest, and hold it long enough to fill in the list.
If NA does land up finishing the list, props to the person who manages to take out Ghostbusters legit. I've made it to the 12th floor, but I dunno if it's possible(at all or) without insane luck to beat the stairwell.
Why don't we make the deadline March 29th 2011? Going by the thread title ("in a year") and the date this project was announced (3/29/10). Otherwise we only had 9 months and 2 days...
Yeah, but when I started the thread, I took all the postings from the Beaten in 2010 thread and put them into the list in chronological order, and took peoples' submissions based on their word (I was surprised at how many people actually took down dates for their completions too...thought it was just me and Basil). Basically, I went retroactive to January 1, 2010. As such, the deadline is December 31, 2010 at 11:59:59 NA time. If anything hits this thread past the deadline, I'll simply transfer them into the forthcoming 2011 thread.
Are we talking legit as in "no turbo controller" or legit as in "on an actual system not emulated with save states?"
I don't disqualify turbo controllers, and emulators are okay as long as save states aren't used (some games would have a far smaller group of people who can beat them if they were disqualified). Things like save states, Game Genie, or other methods of cheating are forbidden.
I forgot we took all the games beaten from the 2010 thread. OK, definitely keep the deadline Dec 31st! I don't know how many more games I'll be able to complete as I have another NA gaming project on the go. Oh, if anyone finishes Arkanoid, please take a picture!
It's not on AdamL's list, and I'm not familiar with the game to make a judgement call. I'll give it to you, but if someone objects I'll remove it later.
I know it's already been done(by me earlier this year), but I swear if you do it just right you can almost run non-stop through all the levels. I still can't remember that secret by the mushrooms from when I was a kid...
I'm going to finish Air Fortress when I get a chance too. Been slacking on that one...
^ What game is that Daniel? It looks familiar but I can't tell. The only clue you gave was 'the secret by the mushrooms'...hmm it's not mario or dream master. Qu'est ce-que c'est?

That is too funny! I completed this game last night in the first attempt at playing it. Some dude gave me an extra life in the mushroom area though I don't think I did anything to provoke or earn it.
Ok. I'm on Swords and Serpents. I've made it to level 10, which anyone who has played the game, knows I am about 3 or 4 hours from completion. However, if someone else is working on it, go for it. I'm having fun just playing it and I gave up my "claim" to it last week.
Side note, I just found out you can attack different parts of the enemy's body. I have beaten this game many times, but never knew that. What you get for not having the manual as a kid!!!
You didn't know that? I thought it was a major part of gameplay...some enemies are weaker to damage to certain parts of their bodies, so it's kind of an important mechanic. Never beat it myself, but at Level 10 you've made it to the last checkpoint before the ending, so it's just a matter of completing everything.
yeah, and those last 5 levels go pretty fast. The final battle is a bit of a bear, but since leveling up caps at 6400 XP per level, and most battles giving you 200+ XP you can level up pretty quick.
And yes, attacking different body parts makes the game MUCH easier! I am an idiot.
Do you know what "LAST RESORT" does in the Party menu? I've never been brave enough to try it...
First here is the nasty beast for those without the patience to write down all of those codes:
And here is the victory screen. After this the screen induces a seizure and you wake up several minutes later with drool on your cheek and no short term memory. Luckily, I took the picture first.
Also, for full disclosure, I left the game on since Thursday afternoon when I started to play and only wrote down codes before I went to bed in the event of disaster. I only ever entered codes ONCE! Screw you Swords and Serpents and your stupid long ass codes!
Also, Last Resort is just a suicide the same as dying in battle. No big deal. Had to use it once when all of my magicians died and stranded me in a room with no doors!

Hopefully I'll be able to knock a few more games from this list.
I haven't done much during the time I was playing Gauntlet. >.>
GB is a great game except for that stairwell...
Oh and Swords and Serpents isn't going to happen any time soon, so have at it.
Does that count?

Beat this one again last night:

It has been too long since I have beaten anything other than Punch Out and GnG.
