  • Legend 1 was my favorite start with one human and 3 mutants .... the monster sucks ,only lucked out once and ate the meat of a boss and turned into Tiamat. usually ill build up the mutants to see which two are most powerful then drop the weakest and recruit another human . great levels and story
  • I just got Adventure a few days ago but haven't played it yet. I hear they are all pretty good
  • Final Fantasy Adventure is the prequel to Secret of Mana, so it's an action RPG like Crystalis. It's a totally different experience that the turn-based FF games.

I thought Final Fantasy Legend 3 had the most polish in terms of the mutation/cybernetics game mechanic, but have fonder memories of Final Fantasy Legend 1, just because I played it at an earlier age.

If you own them already, just play them in order. If you don't own them, the Sunsoft releases are pretty cheap, so they're worth getting.
  • I would easily say FF Adventure, but I much prefer action-adventure RPGs games to standard RPGs.
  • Legends 3 is probably the best as far as story and most perfected gameplay. It's also slightly easier than the first two. The first Legends is also excellent, but a lot harder and basic in terms of polish.

Adventure is incredible, but is more like a Zelda than an RPG. I prefer it over Sword Of Mana personally.
  • I've played them all to completion, and would rate them:

    1) FF Adventure - Action rpg, really fantastic music, fun game to play even today I'd bet

    2) FF Legend II - This is really close between II or III, but I think I slightly prefer the story and worlds in II more.  Solid old school style rpg, also amazing music.

    3) FF Legend III - Also very good, probably involves the least amount of grinding.

    4) FF Legend - Not a very good rpg imo, massive grinding involved after first world, and the world maps aren't very exploration friendly (you'll want a map).  I really dislike how there are no leveling or xp, you use gold for stat boosting potions.

So in short, I'd recommend any except the first one.
  • honestly I love them all. I think I'm more forgiving on Legend I since it got a lot of play when it first was released. But I think they're all great.
  • Final Fantasy Adventure is the best of the lot by far, but it's also not an RPG it's the prequel to Secret of Mana as people said...and to me it was the better 'zelda' game than zelda back in those days. I still own this one with the manual and fold out map no less too.

If you are after a RPG though the FF Legend games are actually "Saga Frontier" of which I think it's out or soon will be Saga2(Final Fantasy legend 2) has been redone in 3D for the Nintendo DS. I played out all 3 of those, but the only one I'd re-do again is the 3rd one because I found the first two tedious and aggravating because all your weapons had limited uses before they broke, and combined with a small inventory box and a deep dungeon just made it a test of patience over fun.
  • Well, they're "Saga". "Sage Frontier" is the Playstation generation of that series.

I thought the limited-usage weapons were pretty revolutionary, for the time, since it made your fighters more like physical-attack-based magic users, and their attacks actually cost you something.
  • Well to each their own, just aggravated me having to stock up on replacement weapons before doing a dungeon as it was a waste of cash to me. Regardless they're good games and I did enjoy them.
  • It's definitely not a perfect game mechanic, but it really encouraged you to play the game in a less grindy fashion, since you're using a limited resource in every battle.
  • Haven't dived into either Legends games but my vote's Adventure just for letting me have a "Nuke" option.
