How long will the DS last?

In terms of lifespan of the system, how long do you think games will be produced for the DS?  I only have 5 games, though FF4 is one I'll be getting.

Just wonder what others think on the current handhelds.

  • I think the ds will last quite a while, especially since it is a relatively popular handheld and offers a wide variety of good games. FF4 may convince me to finally purchase one, there are so many DS titles I want to play!
  • I think we will have several years of variant releases of the system like we are already seeing. I had been waiting for that FF4 remake myself. I'm wondering when I will see snes Super Metroid get released. It's gotta happen sometime, right? I own one, but have mostly GBA titles. FF3(US) probably gets more play than any of them.
  • The GBA FF4, 5,and 6 were good, but the big problem I have with all of them are the ridiculous slowdowns for about 90% of all magic spells/abilities. At least the DS ones won't have problems like this.
  • I think the DS will be around for a long time, it has tons of good games, and has sold more units that the 360, ps3 or wii. Handhelds do very well usually, and the DS is probably one of my favorite systems.
  • I was just glad to be able to finally play it on a portable. 3 is one of my all time favorite games period. I play mt DS everyday at lunch break and I always have one classic I can come back to.
  • So....Somebody hurry up and buy my DS lot then!!!
  • I think it will last awhile, probably years and years.
  • The DS has many more years left which makes me wonder what the final count of USA titles will be released by the time it is "done". Didn't the NES have over 700 or am I mistaken (I don't know much about NES anymore". Anyway, I love the DS and while many games are crap, many are quite good...I'm currently playing Puzzle Quest!
  • The Dragon Warrior(Quest) games are extremely popular from what I hear in Japan, and with IV, V, and VI coming out those will be very successful over there, if not over here....It's here to stay for a while!
  • I think the DS is over 600 releases already, it'll be 1000's before it's said and done.

LOL, you got that right!  It seems companies saw that Nintendogs did well and decided to then cover every other creature on Earth.
  • I'm guessing a few more hours and we will have ourselves a "TS" Tri Screen.
  • I hope it lasts for years. I love my ds.
  • wow all predictions were true. the psp's been out just as long as a competitor. 1400+ games now. i see as far as the console / handheld market coming to a halt soon. as far as progress in what everything can do n wow us over. Nintendo is leading as far as interactivity with how your not just sitting on your ass n playing a game. 3D DS coming just so soon. Sony can't keep up. it took so long for Sony to rip off Nintendo w the Motion to get more people to buy a Ps3. Sony's got the visual jaw dropping graphics, blu-ray and sound. XBox has got the exclusives and Nintendo is just doing what they do best.
  • It's an amazing handheld system that will be around for a long time yet. PSP2 is right around the corner but Nintendo has nothing to worry about.
  • I think it has a good year, two tops once the 3DS is in swing. They don't support their systems much longer than that as Nintendo peters out on doing games when the other brings in the cash, and third parties tend to follow soon after.
  • The DS will never die! And who can blame them with such amazing games coming out. Check out my new post about an awesome upcoming DS Game!
