Help list humorous / silly / funny games - Any system

So my favorite movies are comedies, and I appreciate a video game with a good sense of humor as well.  Unfortunately, it seems that most games are lacking in the humor department, so when you play a good one, it usually sticks out in memory.  I have a few that I'd recommend and I'm curious for other opinions.

PC / DOS, Point n' Click Genre  - Leisure Suit Larry

One of the original Sierra classics that spawned god knows how many sequels.  You're basically a broke 40 year old virgin looking for love in a small city with a bar / casino / wedding chapel / dept. store.  Everything about this game is hilarious, from the hookers and pimps to the drunks and everyone inbetween.  One of the first adult games that was actually interesting, rather than just strip poker or a gimmick for nudity (Custer's Revenge).

NES - ?????? (Need help here)

SNES / Genesis, Platformer Genre  - Earthworm Jim

Everything in this game is hilarious, even the manual.  With characters like "Psy-Crow" and "Princess What's-Her-Name" and levels like "Level Ate" and "Buttville", you know there's a heavy emphasis on humor.

N64 / PS1, 3D Platformers Genre - Conker's Bad Fur Day / Gex

Conker was humorous and turned out to be a good game, Gex was a satire that made fun of other games / pop culture but wasn't that great gameplay-wise.

PS1 / PC, Trivia / Game Show Genre - You Don't Know Jack

A trivia show with a humorous announcer that is funny the first few times you play it, or with friends.  But no real lasting appeal.

Can you guys nominate some others?

Toe Jam and Earl Panic at funkotron. Sega Genesis

  • Monkey Island on the PC was a classic too with some good humor.
  • panic restaurant on the nes is kinda funny.

  • NES: Cowboy Kid (it's a mixture between South Park, any Looney Tunes cartoon as far as animation and drawing style is concerned, and stereotypical Mexicans crossing the border and drinking tequlia)

N64: both Banjo games (especially Banjo Kazooie) gave me a good laugh. Sculptor's Cut was pretty hilarious especially the intro. War Gods had some hilariously funny fatalities

N64/PS1: South Park, South Park Rally, and Chef's Luv Shack (pretty funny, but the jokes do get repetitive), WWF War Zone (whenever you don't wrestle, Jim Ross and Vince McMahon says hilarious insults that's so bad it's funny)

So many fond memories of this game.  I had it for N64, and my friend had it for PS1.

This is exactly what I came here to say. IT helps the game is unbelievably fun too.
  • Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (Saturn/PS1/PSP)

This game is hilarious. The announcer's comments as you play the game never get old.

He makes references to obscure tampon commercials...yeah, stuff like that.
  • I have to agree on Goemon for N64 - there are some really hilarious parts to the game. Some others off the top of my head:

Grim Fandango! (PC) OK ok, I have to say this (see sig, heh), but there is a lot of good humor in there, if you go around talking to everyone

Psychonauts! (PC,PS2,Xbox) I love this game! It is really fun, and quite hilarious at times. The whole concept of the game is pretty silly and they do a good job throughout the game for the most part.

Sam & Max (PC,others)- I thought some of these games were really funny at times.

Katamari Damacy (PS2) - I just think the whole game is really silly

Mr. Mosquito (PS2) - it seems like no one I know has heard of this game - it is really goofy. Not the most amazing game ever, but unique, heh.

There are a ton more I can't think of right now

  • In my opinion, Manic Mansion: Day of the Tenticle (PC) is the most humorous game I have played.
  • The Space Quest series.
  • Road Rash 64 is freaking hilarious! That game just doesn't get enough love.
  • Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga GBA Chortles galore

    Yup. Lost Vikings.

I'd also add Prinny for the PSP. Its also a great game as far as gameplay goes.I highly recommend anyone who likes 2D platformers to check it out.

  • I don't think it's a very well known game, but I had a PC game called Koala Lumpur: Journey to the Edge back in the late 90s. It was a point-and-click with some really unique features, and almost every screen got a laugh out of me. I must have played through it a dozen times, there's some great humor in there.

And the Mate-Toss is brilliant! My wife was upset because her female character threw the standard female and not a male! XD
  • Serious Sam. Any of them.
  • There is a rather new point and click adventure I played recently called Jolly Rover for the Mac which I thought was pretty funny. If anyone is interested the link is listed below.

    http://brawsome.com/

Just click on the games tab and the pirate hat icon to get to the Jolly Rover homepage if you'd like to see screen shots and some video.

According to the website the game will be avaialble in boxed retail form for PC and Mac in Feburary 2011.

  • I always thought that alot of the Spider-man games had some funny sections to them. The character has always been witty and quick with remarks and most of his current games translate that pretty well.
  • Apparently no one cares about funny games anymore.
  • Brave Fencer Musashi on PS1 had a few funny moments.
