EGM #8 Scanned (Jan 1990)

My parents asked me to clear my old stuff from their garage. As I was doing so,
I found a huge box of at least 50 old EGMs. The oldest of the bunch was this issue.
It's #8 from January 1990. It's surprisingly in decent shape with minor damage.
Anyway, I brought it into work and thought I'd scan some pages.
I am too lazy to scan the whole thing, so I scanned some articles, ads, etc.
The ads are funny and did not age well at all, same goes for the whole layout.
You can probably tell I suck at using a scanner (bad cropping, etc).
In the reviews section, they mixed up Golden Axe with Space Harrier!!

The small ad on page 82 (Funco) shows the humble beginnings of FuncoLand,
which was swallowed up by GameStop.

Turbo Grafx 16 VS Genesis....Well, we all know who won that war.
The Super Nintendo wasn't even in the picture yet.

Anyway, the last pic is the back cover... enjoy!

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this. You might want to take a look at www.retromags.com. People scan their copies of old gaming magazines, they've got tons of them.
  • Never heard of Super Grafx. Love all the old unlicensed developer ads too. lol
  • nice! thanks for posting, I'm amazed how a lot of the cool advertisments/screenshots I've seen on different websites came from this one issue of a magazine!

Wow, that makes me feel really old. Especially since I own a SuperGrafx. image
  • Hmmm used stadium events for 24.99, I'll have that. I'd even pay 49.99 for a new one.
  • You don't happen to have a copy of either 97 or 98 that has Laura Croft from Tomb Raider on the cover, do you?

No, sorry. My subscription ended when the 16-bit era ended. image
  • Poo!  Thanks for the response though  image
  • The Wide Boy!? Whaaaaa?
  • Very cool! I love looking at old gaming mags like this. Also, that's crazy how the Genesis only had 12 games as of this issue.
  • The wide boy?? What the hell? Was that a production precursor the the Super Gameboy, a development kit or what? I'm intrigued.
  • Cool stuff, nice to see an article on an obscure item like the Wideboy.
