Which cartridges do you think look better?
NES, SNES, or N64?
For me, it's a tie between SNES and N64. I really can't say.

NES looks better. I don't know why, probably that ladder thing going on at the side. I also like that they're bigger, so they're slightly harder to lose and there's also more room for cover art, which there is a lot of good ones of. I don't like N64 simply because of the lack of end labels, and SNES is good, but the gimmick of EVERY. LAST. GAME. having that black border around it is both good and bad. It's good because it reminds me of the "black box" games, but it's bad because there's no real variation, every game looks slightly similar from a thousand feet away.
Totally agree with you Cody. I enjoy the look and design. They look amazing stacked on a shelf and there's some room for the artwork to shine. You can't go wrong with a nes cart, totally classic.
I know the OP didn't post about it but I love the look of the genesis carts more than the snes for the opposite reason. I look the sleek black design, I always thought that the genny carts were ahead of their time in terms of general design. Plus, some of the label artwork is fucking legendary.
If they made SNES carts the same as Super Famicom I would vote SNES. I really do like the look of the Super Famicom cart, don't know why, just sleek looking. No end labels though, so issues there.

The main reason is a HUGE portion of snes carts are discolored, even if you don't notice it. Holding carts next to a truly non discolored cart, or looking at them under sunlight reveals the awful truth.
On an unrelated note: why did NES carts were made way bigger than the Famicom ones? Such a waste of plastic! Though Famicom carts lool cheaper...
The objective was to make NES stuff look like hi-fi AV equipment and less like video games.

I agree as well, but why did they have to use such shitty labels? I dont think I own a single Genesis cart that the label that doesnt look like it survived a nuclear attack. Id say that at least half of my NES labels look dead mint, and thats out of about 400 carts.
^ Agreed, Sega should have never went to cardboard boxes for their Genesis games. The hard cases were great, probably the best packaging I can think of for any console's games.
The only other consoles I can think of that used the same style packaging (clamshell) were the Odyssey 2, Master System, and the Neo Geo AES. It is a great way to package games, and thankfully it has evolved into current-gen packaging for video games.
both nes and snes display well on their own, but nes seems to be more simplistic to me. n64 just sucks because they don't have outer labels to read the games.
Even as a N64 collector, I agree the N64 labels suck ass. No top labels and no glossy labels either (don't think anyone mentioned that yet). You can remove stickers / marker from most licensed NES / SNES labels due to their glossiness, but N64 labels will rip right apart, or lose their color.
NES for me, followed closely by SNES, with N64 far behind. My N64 games look like crap because I had to make my own labels.
Pretty much exactly the same response from me!
