Favourite (and least favourite) Marvel NES Game!

I got my Captain America cart in the mail today and I was just wondering what everyone thinks is the best and worst game on the NES based on Marvel Comics. I don't think I forgot any, let me know if I did and I'll add it!

Comments

  • I really can't say which one is the best, but I know which one is the worst, and that being X-Men as that game is just godawful because I played it once or twice, and I fucking hate that game with a passion and ever since, I don't want to play it EVER, followed closely by Silver Surfer which is too friggin' difficult even for a sh'ump because it's way too difficult for that genre as if you get hit by anything you die which is the kind of hard called BULLSHIT HARD!!
  • I put Best on Silver Surfer as it really was fantastic, though The Punisher is a close second though I only did that one on ROMs. XMEN I had a crack at back in the 80s and it was god awful crap on a rom waste of space so I voted on that one for that. Perhaps another is worse, but that one I can remember sucking but not why, just that it was bad.
  • X-Men, worst. One of the 2 games I ever took back to the store for a refund as a kid due to it being horrid.
  • X-men is clearly one of the best, you people are fools, but Punisher trumps all. Capt. America and the Avengers is a mess, easily the worst.
  • The Wolverine game is pretty flawed but it's not unplayable. The Punisher is the best.
  • Silver Surfer = Best for me. Decent visuals, fun gameplay, some of the best sounding music on the NES.
  • I think both Spider-man and Wolverine are very underrated. They are very tough games due in part to stupid play mechanics like the damage drain in Wolverine and the 1 life in Spider-Man with some iffy controls at times. Silver Surfer is a great shooter until you reach those top down levels and the music is pretty decent in all of these games. The Punisher is way too repetitive for my tastes. The worst game by far is X-Men, hell, I think it's one of the worst games on the nes for that matter.
  • Seriously, how could anyone vote that Captain America is the worst NES Marvel game when given the choice between that and the likes of X-Men and Silver Surfer?

Any vote against the Captain is a vote for terrorism! image
  • xmen is terrible. it made me cry when I was young and I first tried it.

punisher is the best. I have never played captain america though.
  • Captain America isn't a downright awful game, but at the same, you can only play as two playable characters which sucks given that it's Captain America and the Avengers. A serious lack of Iron Man is irritating and both Captain America and Hawkeye play the same. It kinda follows along a map of routes like Bionic Commando which is nice but most of the levels are color swaps. It's an alright game but no where near the greatness of better superhero games like Batman and Rockateer on the nes.
  • I continue to feel that Wolverine is a pretty good game. The controls are solid and the difficulty progression is reasonable. As it's the only one I've completely played through I have to go with this for best of the six.

Yeah it's weird that there is only two playable characters, but I enjoy it anyways. Cap and Hawkeye don't play EXACTLY the same, Hawkeye can used ranged attacks while ducking and can shoot straight up, Cap can't. I think Cap might do more damage with his shield though. I think it's pretty good, maybe the best of the six.

I've never played X-Men or Wolverine, so the worst one I've played is Spider-Man.

X-men is totally misunderstood and underrated.  The game is a lot of fun, but it takes some time to learn how to play.  It's not going to be a pick-up and play, but once you learn how to play it, it is a blast.

Spider-man is similar and just takes lots of play.

Wolverine is pretty great, but can be frustrating in spots.

Silver Surfer is second only to the Punisher.  Great music, tough levels, and decent use of license.

I find Capt. America etc. to be boring and repetitive and just plain no fun.  I mean seriously, where is Iron Man, Giant Man, Thor?  A straight Cap game would have been better
  • lol, I just reviewed the X-Men game a little while ago. IMO its not that good. Hell its not even fun! But the Punisher/Cap America games are sweet.

Dude, you're crazy, Captain America is great, and even if it's nowhere near perfect, it kicks all of those other marvel games' plastic asses.

The only other one I kinda enjoy is Spiderman, but probably only because I used to play it as a kid, and brings me memories. Its controls suck balls.

  • I voted Silver Surfer as the best. It's a decent looking game, has fun gameplay, and has great music. Yes, it is a hard and frustrating game, but once you memorize where all the enemies are and their movement patterns, it's not that difficult, especially if you're fully powered up. Captain America & Punisher are also decent games as well. X-Men is absolutely horrible. Terrible sound, terrible controls, terrible everything. I bought it on Ebay for $1, played it for 5 minutes, and haven't put it in my NES ever since.

That one had a lot of potential, and good ideas. I'd place it on par with Spiderman, but Cap. America is still better in my book (also has nostalgia factor for me).
