Nintendo NES Challenge Set BRAND NEW

Hey guys, I just got this in today for a good price. How much is it worth? It's brand new and obvioulsy has never been used. The outer box is a little dinged because when it was shipped, the seller just wrapped brown paper-bag around it and slapped a shipping label on it. Keep in mind it comes with a mint sealed challenge set version copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 (it's nice)

So how much is this worth?

  • Who would ship this in brown paper? God damn people are stupid.

Old people clearing out their closet, that's who. I'm not complaining. I paid about $50 shipped for this.

  • Probably the most common or 2nd most common of the NEW NES systems to show up (outside of the top loader). Still has strong value. The mario really is not worth as much as you might think (under $50 by itself), but the system bundle would sell for anywhere from $250 to $400. PROBABLY about $330 or so. Kind of difficult to predict because it is hard to sell these as a lot of buyers who are interested are incredibly picky.
  • Cool find!

But I second the shipping... I would've asked 3 times just to be sure about extra carefull shipping.
  • The Challenge Set is not as common as you might think. I bid on almost every one that shows up on ebay, but they are few. In this condition, you could expect $100+ to the right buyer. The most common is the Action Set, and second is the Control Decks, though there are variations of them.
  • True, it sucks the way it was shipped, but I can swap this out with a mint Challenge set box, if I can ever find one (which shouldn't be too hard).

Thanks for the information so far. Hm...pedro says it's worth $100+, Sara says it's worth in the $300 range. That's a pretty big difference, don't you think?

    BTW, here's where I found it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290202596196
  • I think pedro is thinking like new. LIKE new and NEW aren't the same, obviously. The challenge set NEW is the most common NEW set. Complete, I have no idea.
