It's not just for tv, it's their business. They're entirely there to be full of crap because they need to get an item as cheap as possible to flip it for maximum profit. That's the entire point of a pawn shop, buy low and sell high, that and hope some dumb bastard pawns a nice item and can't afford to claim it. Pawn Stars is fun due to the historical stuff that comes in, learning the history from them or the experts, and seeing some of it (cannons, guns, crossbows, etc) put into use. Sure for the camera they may ham it up, but that's to be expected because if you're not entertaining, you're canceled.
Just saw someone bring in a Virtual Boy on Pawn Stars. Complete in box w/ Mario Tennis, they gave $80 for it.
Thing that caught me off guard was one of the guys said they found 500 or so in a shipping container a while back unopened. Anyone hear about this, or do you think it was a little "Vegas Windage" to bring the price down?
Yeah this one was on last night as well. First I had heard of them finding 500. Prob just saying that to make the dude think that it was worth less so he could get a better deal.
Ahh nice find as I tried to dig something up under 500 units and had nothing. I guess he blew it up a bit, or being 2 1/2 years ago forgot the total and higher is better than lower. In the end though, they may have paid out $80, but they'll never sell it for that with the screens being broken.
"This product was just left years ago and nobody knew it was in stock," said Geekay Games purchasing manager Vijay Chandrabota. "For me, it was dead stock. I didn't even know that this Virtual Boy existed until we found it."
His name is Vijay. hahaha Anyway, I love Pawnstars, sometimes when I watch it I think they lie to the person just to get it cheaper.
Im amazed at how much they paid the guy for the system. There is almost no profit to be made there.
Funny I actually sold a Virtual Boy to a pawn shop a few months ago for $30 bucks. When I looked on ebay that is what they were selling for. I guess they have shot up in value all of a sudden

It was only 100 systems though, not 500.
I have a feeling that they might be referencing this find:
