  • Ninja Gaiden III is completed...
  • It doesn't give you any ending really, it's the same thing any time you at least win, it tallies up your errors, good plays, etc. and gives you a percentage of how awesome you are. That's it. I imagine a 100% is somehow cooler, but I doubt it. Actually, checked it out online. The ending for 100% is actually quite lame in comparison to the tally you get with any other score (at least higher ones). It just says you beat the best and shows you some bullshit shots.

Is it the same thing at any difficulty though?  Like 88% vs 100% on the same difficulty level gives the same screen regardless?  Also does 100% on the high difficulty give the same as 100% on the low one, or is the end difficulty dependant?  If it's difficutly dependant but is the same regardless of the percentage, I'd say you beat it.  If 100% gives a different ending, but easy and hard give the same ending, then I'd say the 100% on any difficulty would suffice.  However, if it's actually different for 100% on the top tier difficutly, I'd have to agree with AdamL.  Too lazy to look it up, I'd just go with whatever you say image
  • Just read the manual. There's NO difficulty option. Here's how it works. Depending on your percentage score when you play, the game will then give you the option of playing another. If you have a 90% or higher the first game, you then go on to play a 'Level 5 Team' and if you beat THEM and get 100% the game is officially over. So it depends if you're considering the level 5 thing part of the game or just getting a good score, because you can get 100% in the first game, but it will still bring you to play a level 5 team after that. I suppose that's the only way to consider it beaten, but there is no difficulty option. However, there IS a team edit option, so I remembered correctly. You can max out your team to beast stats, so that pretty much eliminates the actual difficulty of playing a level 5 team if you do it, but it's not necessarily cheating since you just select the edit screen, edit the stats, and use said edited team. Do that, and it's a piece of fecking cake. So it depends how you want to define 'beating' for this game.

I would say progressing through all 5 tiers would be required then.  Still not sure if the 100% would be requred per se, but you should definitely have to beat the Tier 5 team.  And I wouldn't consider stacking your team "cheating" so much as "making the game too easy to be fun."  Guess I'll have to unmark this unless you did 5 games, which it sounds like you didn't, but at least finding someone to do 5 games would be easier than finding someone (other than Bea) to do 132 image
  • Oh, you DON'T have to play five games, that's only if you don't score high enough at first. You can play a level 5 team after the first game, second, whatever, it depends how you score. There's no reason, and the game is programmed to avoid, going through each level. If you get 90% or higher the FIRST game, you go to level 5 the next one. It's still playing on the actual mechanics. I can easily go through and do it again if you like. I have to review this one soon anyway for a site I write for.
  • I've been working on an RPG for the last several weeks. image

I'll report when it's done.  Shouldn't be too much longer..........I hope.
  • Out of curiosity which one is it?
  • I'm curious too. Depending on what it is and where you are, I might have pointers image

EDIT: And Stan, that sounds perfect.  I'll re-add you to it when you do image  Got a feeling that it won't be touched before you do image
  • Yeah, game's pretty shitty. Bases Loaded II is easily the best of the series, in spite of what people say. Once they switch to the 'behind second base' view it's just horrible. Not sure how they passed play testing that bullshit.
  • I dunno, not a fan of baseball in general, so I can't really comment on any of them. Hate commenting on games I'd never play image
  • This young upstart just put out the fire with ice (fire n ice is done) first time for me image
  • Well friends, I did it - I finally finished Dragon Warrior III:

It may not seem like much to some, but this was quite the momentous occasion for me.  This was the last one I needed to finish of the NES DW games.  I've beaten DW a bunch of times, DWIV several years ago, and DWII for the 2010 thread.  I thought the 2011 thread gave me the perfect opportunity to complete DWIII.

I have to say that  Zoma was by far the easiest of the NES final bosses to beat.  His henchmen didn't stand a chance at all, and I completely kicked Zoma's ass.  I only have low HP on my hero character because he got a critical hit on me.  I guess my point is that I was kinda surprised I beat him so badly - I was expecting a harder fight.  The manual said not to even attempt his castle until around level 44, but I was feeling pretty sure of myself.  Turns out I was right.

Oh, and Wizard Rings and the Sage's Stone are your best friends!!
  • I got about halfway through it last year, just never got around to playing it. Good job!

Gonna have to start over on Uncharted Waters...looks like I built warships a bit too early, my guys can't sail them good (my main character is at sailing level 7 and the rest of my mates are below that), but I like the game enough that I can start over without much regret image
  • Cool man. I need to run through all of those. I finished I, started on II, and then didn't finish it because I lost interest. They're coming up in my review list, though, so eventually I'll get to them.

Just beware - there's a huge spike in difficulty in DWII near the end.  You seriously have to level grind for about 10 levels to be able to survive.
  • I believe that's exactly why I stopped playing, if I recall right. I remember being pretty far and having to level push and it got annoying.
  • I have a lot of trouble sitting down and playing the dragon warrior games, however I did beat Abadox: The Deadly Inner War and Snow Bros.
  • Phew, Abadox is a bitch because of some shoddy design, especially those descending levels. Really annoying. Props for beating it. Took me forever.
  • Yeah, took me a while too. I got lucky in a few levels (no deathed the 4th level, or was it the 5th? Either way it was the first time I saw it), and just got the hang of memorizing the route to the last boss. I liked Abadox, but I'll probably never play it again now that I've beaten it. Snow Bros. I've only played once, never got into it. I dunno, it's like Bubble Bobble for me...it's not that there's anything I can find wrong with it, it just doesn't float my boat image
  • Golf is now done.
  • You actually managed par on that game? That's pretty impressive.
  • This is a fun thread image

I went on an NES binge when I got back into collecting last month XD.  You already have all these, but I went through all 6 Mega Man games, all 3 Ninja Gaidens, all 3 Castlevanias (I love #3, played several times to end with Belmont alone, and then with each of his 3 buddies).  Adventure Island, 'cause I never could beat that as a kid, so I revisited it image

The ones I finished that aren't crossed off your list yet are Section Z and Mighty Bomb Jack (with the good ending).  Those were games I actually owned when I was younger and never beat either, so I thought I'd go for them.

I did all those before I even saw this thread, maybe I'll play through some more on your list now image

  • Awesome man image It's the reason I started it, to get people playing stuff that sits on the shelf instead of just their same old favorites all the time. Last year it led to me beating more games personally than any previous year (and after doing only 4 in '09, it was quite the turnaround).
  • I recently bought Stinger from another member here (this thread):
    http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=45235

Been itching to do that one, perhaps I'll go for it next if no one beats me to it image

Also, I was playing Spy Hunter the other day... isn't that game endless? image

  • Generally I use AdamL's Game Endings FAQ for games like that. If there's no outright end though, generally I say beat the default high score and go through every screen. Once the game loops and you have the top score, I count it as a win.
  • Cybernoid = done... on easy difficulty. "Hard" and "Lethal" are mostly the same, except the movement and attack patterns for enemies are a little trickier. Nothing is different about the ending, level layouts, or number of starting lives.

Anywho, up to you whether or not to count it; I may go back later this year when I hit 99 to beat it again on the other difficulties, as well as tie up some loose ends on some other games...
  • I think I'll count it like the quests in Zelda or G.I. Joe. If someone else gets one of the difficulties, the can claim full points for it in addition to your points, but if nobody does it it'll still be considered done.
  • Are you going to let Golf go without some sort of proof? I'd assume the game needs to be beaten on par, and having tried it I can tell you it's damn near impossible.

It's not that bad with practice.  I managed to get to 10 over after only 3 or 4 full rounds.  I can believe someone got par on it.  Hell, it happened last year too.  If he wants to post a pic, that's fine, but this whole thing is done on the honor system.  Not really much point in cheating anyway, it's not like there's prizes or anything image
