faria map? what's it worth?

title says it all. i got mine years ago for around $10. what is the going rate on these things now? $50?

Comments

  • Id say $50 at least possibly more if its mint with no tape/rips.
  • $50 would be a steal for this -- it's the rarest map. Mine has the original envelope that it came in, but it set me back $125, and I thought that was a good deal!
  • yow! mine is in perfect unused condition, but i dont have the envelope. so that puts the value of the map around 3 figs. good thing i picked it up back then! sad to say that i did not pick up the myriad, caltron, or SE back then, but oh well!!!
  • Dain, do you have a pic of the Faria envelope?
  • Was the map a mail in thing or did it come in the box?

    Mail-in offer.
  • (Faria, GI Joe, and Bard's Tale maps were all mail-in offers.)
  • I've never seen a GI Joe map, and not even a reference to a mail-in map ever existing. I opened a factory sealed copy of the game, still no reference to a map. I've checked Nintendo Power, Game Player's, GamePro's, VG&CE's, Game Informer's, etc, to see if there was a special mail-in mentioned anywhere. Nope. To me, it's still unconfirmed.

As for Bard's Tale -- does anyone have any proof that this existed as well? With Faria, there was a mail-in offer on the last page of the manual. You had to mar you manual in order to get it. I actually have a manual for this that had the mail-in offer cut out of it. It came with the game I purchased that had the map, so I thought it was neat to keep them together image

srh201: I think most of us that have collected NES for more than 3-4 years wish we'd picked those up. I know I do. I purchased those games within the last 2 years because I took the approach of "I'll save the expensive ones for last"... boy did that hurt! I took off a year or so from my NTSC set to work strictly on my PAL collection... dumbest thing I could have done, looking back image

NESArmstrong: not yet, but I plan on scanning it (and other rare guide books, etc) for the site once I'm unpacked.
  • I'm with you Dain. No one has yet to prove any evidence of a GI Joe mail in map or even a card or an offer or a promotion for it. Same goes for Bard's Tale. Do people just make this stuff up? I remember a few years ago the big discussion was if snake's revenge came with a map. Again, people either assuming, confusing it with another title, or just flat out making stuff up.

I understand the confusion with Faxanadu, River City Ransom and so forth because these games do actually have maps available in the Nintendo Power Magazines. However there were not any maps included with the game.
  • Well if this helps with value if anyone has a Faria Map in good shape with the envelope I'd pay $175 for it. For just the map in good shape I'd pay $125. Also to that vain I'd pay $50 for the stupid Section Z cough map cough that still looks like someone drew and photocopied to me. Last 2 I need.
  • i have something that erik doesnt have... i will cherish this day for the rest of my life!!! jealous much erik?!?!?!? oh wait, nevermind, one game you have is worth as much as my entire collection! haha.
  • The game that should have come with a map is Metroid! I used to squint to try and see the little one they printed in Nintendo Power #1 every time I played it.

"The Official Nintendo Player's Guide" has an excellent map of Metroid that is second to none.
  • just wait until me and my bro paint shop pro a pro looking Metroid map that will be pretty big with all the layouts, hid outs, characters, monsters etc.. I plan on getting it professionally printed etc... it will look crazy niice
  • Funny story between me and BH and my faria map, lol image He can mention it if he likes.

    Wasn't his fault, though.

A faria map is one of those really odd items that you can't predict it's value. How often do they show up for sale? Once a year or so? Definitely $100+, but if the right people went after it, it should definitely be over $200.
  • re: Metroid map, this is a huge file but worth a look if you're a Metroidhead

I also intend to get this printed out someday too. Would be awesome in a game room!
  • So whats the story Erik?
  • Ya I want to hear the story too. image

Speaking of faria maps, who all has one. I assuming sara and srh201 have one by there posts. Dain, Nesarmstrong, srh201, raregamergirl, me. Anyone else?
  • there was an auction on ebay about 2 years ago that had 2 of these maps in it. it ended for around 80-90 i think. i was the second highest bidder. sooooo, whoever won that one has 2... or at least had 2 back then.
  • Well, wasn't exactly the most fascinating story. Just makes me laugh every time I think of it thinking how far BH has come along since then. Long time ago, when BH first starting hitting the the ebay scene, I was curious how serious he was etc so I asked him how much he would pay for certain rare items (some very rare, some not as rare). Couple incredibly rare 1 of type of pieces, but mostly stuff that is pricey but attainable. Well, to be honest, I did not intend on selling mot of those things. Lets just say his offer on the faria map was below $20.

To his defense, he probably did not realize the value or rarity of most of the items. Obviously, he knows now.

We were all there once, just a little funny to think of senior members like that in that way.
  • I thought maybe he sold you a cib Faria for cheap and included the map for free!!
  • Lol, no. Nothing like that. I can't think of anything I have ever bought from BH besides a caltron questionnaire. I could be wrong on that one, though. That one was actually on ebay and went for the rock bottom price of $25. Lol.

No, I have had the faria map for years.
  • Yeah yeah... LOL good one Sara... but I did get my very nice CIB F2 from you out of all that! image
  • I have an extra Faria Map, but someone wrote some passwords on the map in one of the spaces. Map is in ok shape...
  • Someone should contact whereever you where supposed to send your cut manual too. Kind of a longshot, but they could have some left somewhere someone hasn't been in 15 years.
