I think everyone would buy one at 3.20 a cart, but the man has to make some type of profit! Come on now, what's the point if he's not going to make any loot?
yep, i am definatly not going to be selling at 3.20 a cart because i think more people would buy large quantities just to resell once they become rare. also if i couldnt sell all 1000 copies i would lose money.
Buying stuff like this is risky. He has spent 3200$ on a package thats like 20cm x 10cm x 5cm...from china. Would you do that to just "get even"? He can't move 1000 games.... It was minimum order. I would say 20$-35$ usd is a fair price. Noone does this kinda stuff for free. Hope he used the label I made
haha sorry hilmarf i didnt use that label, i found one that i liked, i wanted it to say english translation on it! i am going to sell them for $30+shipping if there is enough interest for me to order them. i opened a preorder to decide if i am going to buy them or not.
i havent ordered them yet. i am trying to see who is interested in buy them. i have a preorder post going now. if not enough people have interest i wont get them
I don't want to crap on your sale thread, so I'm bringing it up here, but $30 + shipping for a GBA repro is kinda pricey. I know you gotta make your investment back plus some coin for your troubles, but if you want to come even remotely close to moving 1000 copies, you're going to need to scale that way back. Most NES repros barely break the 100 mark (if they're lucky), and Mother 3 is a bit more of an obscure-ish game compared to the really popular ones like NWC.
I'm not trying to say you shouldn't do this, but you need to put them at a price where people are willing to buy a couple copies from you. $30 a pop isn't that price.
i am not expecting to sell all thousand. also i dont want people buying massive amounts of them, i want them to enjoy the game, not look at it as a huge buisness opprutunity. $30 seems fair in my mind and i know for sure that i would buy one for that price. as a matter of fact i am keeping myself some copies of it for sure
actually it is about 130 due to the amount i have to pay for shipping, but whatever, i want to make sure that everyone in the world that wants to play this game in english on a REAL gameboy i able to
Well, I won't buy 10 now. No, I agree, $30 just feels a bit high given that it was $3.20 to make a copy, and you've got so many copies to sell through. I mean, it's your idea, sell it for whatever you want: But, you need to analyze what the best price vs copies to insure you get the maximum profit. If you feel 30 will sell every copy, stick to it or raise the price. If not, go down a bit.
i know for sure that all 1000 will not sell, there are not enough fans! but i dont want massive resellers. but it looks like i probably wont be buying it as there doesnt seem to be too much interest, only like 7 buyers on the presale/interest post
It's not that you shouldn't do it, it's that the price is clearly wrong. I know you don't expect to move 1000 copies, but even 100 @ $30 was way unrealistic. I counted up on the last page, and you had roughly 80 copies spoken for at $3.20 a cart. Now clearly that's not going to make your money back, but there is a number that will. I'm not sure why you're so afraid of resellers buying up your overstock. If it makes your money back, but at the same time gets carts into the hands of collectors, what's the problem? If you don't have the time or patience to move copies like resellers do, than this is a generally bad idea. Otherwise, get in touch with them and see if you can get larger number spoken for. Even if you only charge them $4 a copy or something low, you could maybe get a couple hundred carts accounted for right away. So what if they make more off them, if you don't have to go to the trouble to do it yourself?
Also, since a large portion of your buyers will likely be in the US, find yourself a US partner where you can take advantage of cheap flat rate shipping boxes with the Postal Service here. Then people aren't having to worry about customs, varying shipping prices, and you can streamline your whole process.
I think the price is too high at $30 but I'm willing to pony that up mainly for the fact that it'll make my son happier than a pig in shit. What if you gave each order 3 copies for the $30 plus shipping? That may entice more than the 30 or so buyers in the presale thread and still leave you with 700 copies for resellers and replacements of bunk carts.
$30 is high considering the cost. The profit margin is a little ridiculous.
That being said, I would be willing to pay $20-$25. And even then, only if Tomato got $5 per game. Without him we wouldn't even be having this discussion at all.

You don't know the margin until he runs out of buyers, since he has to eat the cost of unsold units.
This is why certain information typically remains "trade secret". Since the guy is absorbing all of the risk, upfront, I personally would expect a pretty decent margin.
Then again, it's a cart-only release, so for a GBA title the "fair" price is probably closer to $15-$20, rather than $30 (normal for a CIB commercial release).
Clearly it was a strategic error to post the core fixed cost, but don't assume OP is going to manage to sell every copy of the game and get the false impression that he's making $27/game.

hi i am the person who is going to order them, just clearing up a few things first, they should be on sale in approximately 10-30 days
No offense, but I hope this isn't true.

I don't think people would mind paying 30usd incl. shipping at least.. but that's just me.. (I'm always broke hehe).
