  • That was awesome. Thanks for sharing.
  • Thanks. I've never actually watched one of his videos all the way through, I usually regard online clips to be a waste of time (like I do most actual TV and movies) but this made me laugh at the end. Well done.

Probably won't watch anymore, but I'm not sad about that 18 minutes of my life.

Agreed, I love the hardware reviews. The Colecovision one was one of my favorites.

But oops he came back with the power of love I guess to save the day!

Or shit, even if just the episode ended that way. Next episode, he's back to normal and he never addresses it again. It's a review show it doesn't really need continuity.

That would be a great way to end it. I was thinking the same thing when I was watching it. Next thing you know, it's a giant japanese monster movie homage.

  • I loved this video. I feel this kinda stuff made AVGN who he is, taking it to the next level with with the excellent special effects and over the top mega fight at the end. I have always heard people crap on ROB about how crappy it is ( besides the fact he's a robot ) but I thought it was a great mix of crappy games with cool effects. I just loved seeing the nerd gear up again and kick some SHITTY DIARRHEA BUFFALO BALLS PISS ANAL EVAC........ I just loved it image
  • yeah one of his better ones. great production values and a funny show
  • two words:

    Gyromite Controller.

Though to be fair, the ROB takeover of all video games and subsequent giant monster throwdown is basically the only thing he had in there that I haven't seen done with ROB jokes, so I guess it goes both ways in that sense.

Well, that and the gyro gag.

Why the hell does everybody always say it wrong? It's pronounced yee-ro unless you're some guido prick that likes in New Jersey.

  • Maybe the gag is less sophisticated than I figured, depending on how multicultural James is. But since I lived in Greektown in downtown Toronto for a couple of years I can at least understand its implications.

And the implications are xenophobically hilarious!

But gyro the sandwich and gyro- the prefix come from the same greek word anyway so the gag stands on a couple of levels despite how you pronounce it. And from another point of view, over half of English words are actually latin or greek in origin, so a joke about greek words being everywhere in the english language and for the most part meaning different things is pretty hysterical.

By the way, "hysterical" means "floating uterus".

  • consider: hysterectomy

how are you pronouncing it? Does it matter when you realize it's got the same root as hysterical and that's the basis of the gag?

Everyone says it "wrong" because you are the only one who pronounces it that way.

To this day I've never played Stack Up. Was ROB knocking over the blocks really that bad?

Use to love Gyromite back in the early days, but hated using ROB. Thought I was a genius for just putting my controller in the ROB attachment but then using my feet to play it.  Was pretty funny to see someone else do it.
  • It was a little exaggerated, but yeah, sometimes the blocks would collapse when he dropped them. Really was pretty annoying, plus you realized quick you didn't really need ROB to play it.

I'm 100 percent right on this one even though you hate being wrong. Google it.

  • He has the CAN Gyromite box, but the USA cart.  image

What am I supposed to be googling?  I just found your statement funny.  You said everyone pronounces it wrong.  I assumed you meant everyone but you pronounces it wrong.
  • It's not even "yee-ro" its "giro" which is a distinctive sound I don't even think English really has.
  • I laughed my ass off at the part where James sat down and started acting like ROB. And the gyro part. This is the best recent one, that's for sure.
  • James has some crude modding skills... I wonder if bunnyboy would make a gyromite controller... with a saw.
  • I watched this earlier.. The hack-job of the NES pads is a brilliant idea for Gyromite, haha.

Well I live a half mile from Tarpon Springs, and all the old Greek guys pronounced it the way an American would say "yee-ro" or "iro: (with the "I" in "iro" making an "e" sound. So that is the way I pronounc it when I order them. The rest of my family says "gearo" and I have heard a lot of non Greeks say "Gyro". So it is all up in the air, but I guess the proper way would be Yee-ro or Iro.
  • Yeah, but even if gyro is pronounced differently in the original Greek, really it's more of an American-Greek dish now. Just like a pizel, which I can't remember the exact pronunciation or spelling of. We say it like that, even though it's something like pizellie. That's just how Americans say the word now, so I don't think saying gyro is a problem.
  • Sorry stan, your accent is objectively incorrect. The way words are said has no real bearing on the way words are said.
  • Sure it does, we Americanize plenty of words. Vodka, for example. English lacks the proper first consonant, which is a combination of basically V and W, or perhaps better to say midway between those two sounds.
  • Maybe I was being too coy.

Man, I could really use some Wvodka right now. I'm real thirsty and the only cure is Wvodka, or more cowbell.
  • Hhaahahaha. Are you just messing or don't you believe it? I sense you believe!
  • Fun episode. I've never seen a ROB in action. Seemed as pointless as the Obama administration.

  • avgn vs the bores, the final showdown.

He's pretty spot on with how it works.  Of course, it's slightly exaggerated at times, but he pretty much captured everything and the focus on the grinding of the gears is awesome attention to detail.  Definitely must have grown up with the damn thing.
