Castlevania in B/W

I've just bought Castlevania second hand off eBay and tried playing it on my NES (both are PAL) which has been playing all my other games fine. The game is in black and white, everything that should be in colour is chequered. Just wondering if this is a common problem? or something else because I can't find anything about it online. I've cleaned the cartridge thoroughly with no effect, maybe it's time I gave the NES a new clean.

    Ha I just banged on the NES a good few times, loaded it up again and now it's in colour!

    Probably just some bad contact, then. image Only way I can get Castlevania in B/W is to hook up my US NES to my old Commodore monitor, that don't support NTSC. It becomes B/W on PAL. image

    Didn't you know? Hitting it always makes it work lol. I remember when I was little and had trouble getting an NES game to work I'd throw it across the room and then put it in and it would work almost every time. My friends use to call it Greg's magic touch lol
