  • This one sounds actually kind of interesting.
  • I'll start us off again. Golf games are great. One of my favorite GBA titles was Mario Golf. This was my first attempt, hopefully I can give this a few more tries and get a better score.

    74

You got a 74 you Jive Turkey!
  • ^^ ah.. whoops. Okay I changed that. Wasn't sure because it said "Total: 72". But I do see 74 next to that number. Guess I need to learn how to read a score card image
  • 72 is the par value for the course, you had a +2 which makes 74. Perhaps if this is so confusing people should just post their final score (ie: -5, -3, +4, etc.)
  • Ive been working on this game off and on lately. I know I've beaten all 3 courses under par very recently, so I'll give this one a shot this week.
  • Hmmm, you know, I'm not sure I actually own this game. I need to check. There are a few gaps in my collection, most of them golf titles.
  • I don't have this game, so it will be back to the emulator again for me this week.

Your lucky this ain't the PGA you would be DQ'd, plus you didn't sign your scorecard either!  Just giving you a hard time man, I love this game and time permitting I might actually submit a score this week.

    Skulldeath,

My last submission. I don't think I'll top that one. I didn't think I'd top - 4. I came too close to breaking my controller too many times to keep going. It brought back a lot of memories, though. My dad and I used to play this game all hours into the night. I may have to drag the NES over to my parents' and challenge him again for old time's sake.

  • This game isn't so bad. It's really not much different than other golf games out there, with some graphical bells and whistles. Question, are we permitted to save our game as we progress? I saw there is apparently a save option where you can interrupt the game and come back later. Is this okay? I don't think it would be a problem but I wanted to check.
  • Man, I've never been good at this golf games. I always just found them frustrating. Not sure I'm going to participate in this one, it just gets on my nerves. I can just never seem to "get" these games.
  • And after playing almost a full game, I have to say, a 74 is a damn good score. I see you got several under par and a number par. That's not easy. Won't be an easy task to beat that score. I'm not even entering until I can at least match it. I need to practice this type of game. At least, unlike Bandai Golf piece of shit, you are given suggestions and suggested directions, which are generally pretty spot on. Some of the mechanics don't really seem to do what they're supposed to, but I'm probably just not good enough yet.
  • Yeah, this is one of those games where, if you haven't practiced it before, you're probably not going to do so well. I never played golf games enough, other than Golf for the 2600 and Great Golf (Japanese version) for the Master System. Those ones have similar play and are a lot more fun. This type of game, though well designed, requires a bit of practice to get anything decent going. Kind of like Bases Loaded, took me roughly a full week of playing it again to get back into the pitching, hitting, and awkward fielding. I probably don't have enough time to practice this one to get anywhere with it, but I'll try.
  • No, your score is 72. It's the number of strokes, not the number over or above par.

My stroke count is 72 on a 72 par course, which gives me 0. And it's the same either way since we are all playing on the same course with the same settings..... Which is even a better reason to use + or - par. Just like every other golf game in the world.

Now if you are not going to play the game and only complain about how you won't be able to do well, then stop thread crapping. We don't need to see 4 posts in a row from you where you are talking to yourself.

    image     OH SNAP!
  • Actually, Mog's score in golf term is not 0, not 72, but: Even.
  • Yeah that's true it would be considered even, and then the + and - is over and under as in (4 strokes under par = -4.) I used to be decent at this game but seems I've lost it as I hosed up hole 1 big time yesterday.
  • Pwnt. Told you. It wouldn't be possible to get a 0, the lowest technically possible (though not really) score would be 18.   Don't be sad because the tally is still on my side.  I totally called your bluff, I figured you were using such a program, but you didn't know enough to know the "alteration" tag deals with the last time the file was manipulated in some way, which was through my batch converter.  I'll talk to myself if I want to, it gives me more posts.  I really don't think I'll have enough time to practice this game since we're getting ready for shows, but if I do I'll be certain to kill you again.
  • His score was 0, face it.

This. Plus if he got an 18, his score would be -54 than. I am looking for some copies of this as it's the game to play for the score! Crap. Good luck guys, got some good golfers in here.

Actually his score is PAR, but thanks for playing you know about GOLF!
  • You wouldn't say my score was par. Then you'd have to say my score was three over par, etc. It's just the number of strokes. Read the manual. And it was never specified in this thread exactly how the "score" was to be calculated. It just says lowest score wins, it doesn't say "your score is your number of strokes plus or minus par". It just says lowest score. Scoring in this game is by stroke total, so that's your score. Why do you think the first score posted was 74 and not 2?
  • For those of you who don't have it, page 6 states about stroke play:

The game's winner is decided by your TOTAL STROKE COUNT for 18 holes (cap bitch and bold added by me).

Score is 72. We are playing the "stroke play" aren't we? 72 strokes total, that's your score.  The game automatically calculates based on over/under par holes for the total. On another note, has anyone managed to get the legendary super shot? It seems pretty tough to do with certain clubs, especially 1W.

Well, I play Golf since I'm 10 years old, and I never heard anyone saying 'I played PAR' on the whole course. Hole per hole, yes. Total of score, we say 'Even'.

Anyway, let's just stop talking about this. You can post your score the way you want, 78 or +6, 65 or - 7, I'm pretty sure we all know what we're talking about in the end.

Alright now its time to play who was right?  Answer this riddle for me if you played golf since you were 10.  Lets say you just shot +1 in a round of golf in which you tell your NA buddies, man today I shot One over _____ !   Than the next day you shoot better than average and tell your NA buddies all excited that  you shot One under ____!   Fill in the blanks and tell me what that is called you JIVE TURKEY!  I will give you a hint, it rhymes with "CAR"

So after all this, its okay I forgive you, just say man SKULLDEATH was correct.

I agree with guillavoie here.  Let's stop arguing over how the scores will be posted.  Post your scores any way you want, whether it's 74 or +2 or 74 (+2).  Let's not worry about it.  And if someone gets par, I don't care if they list the score as "0" or "even" or "par."  We all know what it means, even if we all use different terms.  Let's just play the game and have fun instead of arguing with each other.
