Sega Genisis 16-bit carts

Got lucky at a swap-meet 2 days ago. I grabbed 5 boxed sega genisis games that needed some major work done. Gautlet IV and Battletoads wouldn't play. I was feeling lazy didn't want to use the gamebit to crack open a mint cart. So, I just tried to clean it with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. I knew where this was headed when I kept scrubbing the heck out of it and nothing happened. Tried an extremely fine buffing pad on the cart contacts with rubbing alcohol and still nada.! I would hate to use any abrasive cleaner, but I could look into the cart and clearly see the oxidation on the pins.

Think Im going for the tool to crack it open. I will report back when Im done. Anybody else have this problem recently or similar?
