Search category function? Working properly for everyone?

Hail NA!
I'm at a loss on this one. For some time now I've been unable to use the search category function on the NA website. Any search culminates with a blank display and the following in the address bar "http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/searchresults.cfm." I'm using the same browsers and machines I always have so I'm curious to see if anyone else has been having a similar issue. Thoughts? Cheers!

  • I was having issues with it too. it would just return one thread with all the replies, and when you tried to see the next topic, the search would say no more matching titles.
  • I have also problems with the search function.

Ok, I was able to reproduce this, and I'll have it fixed later today I hope.

Anyone else have issues? Please be very specific if you can on what's not working. Saying "doesn't work for me" isn't enough info for me to troubleshoot, thanks!

  • The Search Forum on the left upper corner is working for me. The problem is the search category function on the right upper corner. If I use it there is only a with screen and nothings happens.

Indeed Splash, this is the same issue I've been encountering. I'm relieved to find that others are finding this as well so I can give up on any further attempts at fiddling with my browser! XD I'll try the search forum function and see how that works out.

My thanks for taking a look at this Dain, it's much appreciated! Cheers!

  • I'm not sure what could cause this. Can you tell me what browser you're using?

On another note, I've fixed the category search (that wasn't going beyond page 1).
  • I use Firefox, I dont have any new programms or something else. I noticed that fault the first time 7 or 8 days ago.
  • I've always used firefox. But, I've also tried using IE, no dice.
  • Do you still have that problem? For me the search category still isn't working.
  • Searching works fine for me, but I am bummed that the old Advanced Search page is gone. This one is more difficult to use imo.

Maybe there's no results? Search the category for "bumbed" and you'll get this thread, no?

Tell me what you are searching for so I can try to reproduce it. From what I can tell, it's working just fine.

The 'Search Forum' box in the forum window was changed to only search thread titles by default, so maybe that's their issue.

For example, if I scroll up and type bumbed it gives me no results, but if I type teefury, the 3 threads with the word 'Teefury' in the title show up as results.

Right, but the 'search forum' box isn't the Category search they're talking about. Title search as the default is a recent change. We did this because it seemed more intuitive to search by title, since most searches are searches looking for a specific thread, not thread post.

  • Oh, category search... Gotcha. FWIW, it works fine on my end, too. Firefox 3.6.15.

Never seen a site default to only searching thread titles... Interesting choice. I would think that it might create the illusion that there is less content on the site than there actually is to newbies using the search, but perhaps I put too little faith in the intelligence of noobs.

  • Like I said above, I can't search anything in the "search category" for example I checked the Buy/Sell thread and tryed it with "Mario" and at next with "Mega Man" normaly there must be popping up a few hundred threads but there is nothing, only a with screen. I also checked this category with "bumbed" like you said the result is the same, only a with screen.
  • This is because the default was "title". If you change it to "title or body" and choose the category, it would find it.

Since this is causing so much trouble, I've reverted it back to the previous setting that will search title and messages.
  • Dain I must say great job with the new forum search. I love how it shows the replies in a list containing the keyword search.
  • I just did a search for a thread that I created, but the results were displayed as messages rather than topics. Even when I click the "topics" function. Quick fix I suppose?
  • Yeah, I'm getting messages rather than topics again too.
  • I think I have this worked out (heh, probably not, but let's see anyway).
  • Wasn't working earlier, seems to be working now!
  • Sweet search is back! Works great for me again now.
  • Thanks Dain! I was lost without that search function.
  • Thanks Dain, whatever you have done it was the right! Search is back and it works fine now.
  • See, it still isn't working for me. I get to this address

    http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/searchresults.cfm
(clicking this link DOES NOT get to where I get to during searches...never scene this page before)
which is just a blank screen. I tried searching for "Contra" in the BS&T forum...I know it is in the title of multiple threads....also tried searching for my name, Benihana, in other threads and always got the same thing.
     I am using Firefox...
tried clearing my cookies and cache and all...interesting...
  • I dunno man, seems to be working on FF, Safari, IE and Opera. Did you install any browser add-ons recently?
  • Dont think so...maybe I need to...

I am not worried about it...it will fix itself eventually...who knows what I have and have not done to my computer....
As long as the important features work I am happy...forums, collection tools, photos, chat...you know, the important stuff...
  • How crazy is this...it does the same thing on all 4 of my computers...

and they have different versions of window...XP, Vista, and 7. I am guessing it is my version of Firefox...
  • Damn...just downloaded the new firefox 4.0 and the search feature is still just giving me a blank screen...Now I am thinking it is MY NA account...I lied...it is starting to bug me!
I cleared my cache...and it did not help...
    Oh,
I searched for my name "Benihana" in this thread and it found everything...but when I go up to the "Site Suggestion and Feedback" area, the search just leaves me a blank screen like usual...
  • ha ha...it is my computer settings...When I search with Missa's account it does not work either...

    Totally weird...
