My problem is I still see the DS as a kids system. It does look pretty cool, but I can't justify paying 250 bucks for a hand held. Plus I just bought a PSP 3000 for 130. I would get it for my 10 year old daughter but not for that much.

I currently don't plan on getting the 3DS anytime soon and I'm sorry, but that seems like a hilariously narrow minded view of an entire system.
Thanks for posting the video. I want to wait and actually see the 3DS in person at the store demo, which I would imagine most game stores will have set up, in order to determine if I want to buy it or not. It's funny how I have seen so many videos displaying the new 3DS , but due to the limitations of 2D television I have no idea what the effect looks like. It reminds me of back in the late 80's and early 90's when new systems would be released that you would read about in gaming magazines like Nintendo Power or GamePro but did not get a chance to really see in action until they hit the stores.
Yeah, that's true. The way I look at it though is that it's a new DS, and I really enjoyed my DS so buying the "sequal" is a no brainer for me. Even if I'm not a fan of the 3d itself it doesn't appear that it is going to be necessary to play the games, at least not yet. I'm sure some games will come out where they will have certain parts where it's recommended to use the 3D effect but to me it just seems like a bit of an added bonus to the DS2.
The DS is now by far my favorite handheld ever released. It probably has games from every kind of genre, and it's huge library has quite a few gems (and a few hidden pearls). It does have a ton of crap, but it's easily avoidable.
The retro-compatibility with the GBA is also really aprecciated as it's another great system.
Just as CrashMan I see it as the sequel of a great line of products. Gimmicky or not, it'll probably deliver.
Calling the DS a kids system is the mindset of a very ignorant and closeminded ass. I've been good for awhile about not being cold and blunt, but stupid like that gets it. I'm with him on $250 sucking as far as price goes though. There's nothing about the 3DS that's making it a kiddie toy for a 10 year old girl. Then again maybe little girls can offset their Nintendog time with Ridge Racer, Street Fighter IV and Steel Diver you know since they're just oozing with Helly Kitty like snuggle moments (well blanka is a bit furry.)
The DS is definitely not a kid's system. Yeah, it does have a ton of crap content for kids, but it also has a lot of great games for the more mature gamer. If you are dismissing the DS as a kid's system, you are missing out on a lot of awesome content. Anyway, the 3D effect on the 3DS isn't supposed to be used by children (it fucks with their vision), so I have a feeling that it will probably be geared more towards the mature gamer than the DS was.
Only bad thing I see is that battery life is supposed to suck, about 5 hours running games that don't use any features like 3D. And no, the DS isn't a kids system. But man, the library is built for them, just like the Wii. I'm kinda excited to see what kinds of games use the 3D and use it good....Pilotwings seems like something I'd totally love. I'm about to go look up some gameplay!
No bob that was pretty much trolling. You came into a positive run in here and went and thread crapped on it. This was about the countdown to release, and you came in to call it a kids toy. Sure it's an opinion, never said it wasn't. It was ignorant to come in here and pretty close minded to say it let alone think it when the facts that present themselves so far show otherwise which would lead one to think you're trolling and thread crapping to get attention.
Ok, not trying to start a pissing match with one of my first posts on NA, but I was not trying to crap on a thread. I just jumped in and said why I probably won't buy a 3DS anytime soon. I also stated that I thought it looked pretty cool. I just didn't think what I posted justifies me being called a ignorant closeminded ass. But if thats what you like to do then so be it.
I'm not trying to start a pissing match either, and yes you did share an opinion. Ass was for thread crapping, but ignorant and closeminded fits as well calling it a kiddie toy is that and I'm not the only one who thinks it. I say we drop it.

In all fairness, I don't believe you deserved to be treated that way either for simply stating your opinion.

ImBob, meet Tanooki!
BTW, of course it's a kids toy. You think you are gunna fix a car with it or run a business of it? It's a video game system! It's a kids toy!
Heck, we're all old kids in here. I can't understand how a handheld would qualify only for kids. Is it because it's not as good hardware as a console? No - it's a billion times more powerful than the NES we love. Is it because it's small? No - everything is getting smaller: smaller = better. So why?
I'd be looking forward to it intensely if I had the money to buy it when it came out. And if I'd seen any release games that really interested me. It'll definitely be a purchase for me eventually, though. I'm excited to see it grow old and cheap!
playing poker: Thanks, and yeah it's harsh but I am blunt about stuff. I'm also beyond worn out with the classic internet based flame war (I know he wasn't going there) crap on Nintendo and even more so 'multi-system' boards where some troll comes in and goes 'Nintendo is for kids' thanks to the Sony smear campaign back in the PS1/N64 era. I've seen the same tired 'X(Nintendo system) is for kids (only), real gamers play Y' since 1996.

You know if I would have been here for more than 2 weeks and have known you a little, I probably would have just told you to f__k off and everything would have been fine. Believe me some of my best friends call me up and the first thing they say is you're a dumb ass. But if you don't know the guy, well then them are fighting words.
Anyway, I still stand by what I said, "My problem is I still see the DS as a kids game." Maybe thats just because at the holidays I see my 14 nieces and nephews all running around with DS's. HAHA
Yeah well I could say that the 360 is a kids toy too because of those Kinect games, or that the PS3 is due to Jack and Daxter, Sly Cooper, or other of the style games. But I'd be dead wrong, just like you are on the DS. It has something for everyone, just as the other systems do too. The reason why nieces and nephews get DS's is the same reason they got Gameboy's before, cheap price, sturdy construction, and plenty to do with it.

What a horrible song and band.Cheesy and lame. Only a few great things came out of the 80's and this band was definitely not one of them.
No.

Seriously dude? I'm ignorant and closeminded ass for having an opinion. Wow, sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone, but apparently I did.

Edit: fixed double quote
Tanooki while a bit harsh was correct.
I am a 36 year old excited for my 3ds that is a toy for all ages 7+.
Tanooki while a bit harsh was correct.
That just means you are an older kid like me
