History of Nintendo System Launches

I thought it was an interesting article, especially how it gave the original prices and their inflated cost.

For those who were there for these launches, how accurate was the article?

  • Definitely an interesting read. Surprising to see that quite a few of Nintendo's system launches were shaky. I think the 3DS is going to do very well. Sounds like there's a strong number of early adopters for this system.
  • It's short per system but a good read. They omitted the full facts of the NES launch as an equal amount went to Los Angeles(and county) as I got mine from there back in 1985 for Christmas. It was a shaky test but it worked, and SNES I don't recall either hitting with a whimper as they ran for the era a good bit of tv and some print ads, also whored it up heavily in Nintendo Power too and I remember some city tour too. IGN being IGNorant of the facts again eh?
  • Thanks for your input!
  • Cool article, nice read!
  • I agree, that was a good article. Interesting to read back on it, I'm surprised on the inflated prices as well.
  • Suprised they did not mention the DSi and the DS lite...and what about the GBA SP? I would like to see how the #'s stood up when they sell "upgrade" systems...after all...that is all they have been doing to the DS since it first released.
  • Very good read. Still remember buying my first console, the SNES.I remember my mom paying over 300+ though. I think its because we bought an extra controller and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Fighting Edition, kick ass game tbh.

Honestly I remember paying more for the SNES, Gameboy Color, Advance and Gamecube than the launch prices indicated.
