Anyone grab/play Ridge Racer on the 3DS?

I just picked up a 3DS this morning for the hell of it, and grabbed SSF4 and Pilotwings with it. I'm a huge fan of the Pilotwings games, so that's what really sold me on it.

As cool as SSF4 is on the 3DS, I've found that it's super awkward to play on the 3DS DPAD. I'm thinking of trading it in towards Ridge Racer, but I haven't really heard much about it. I'm a big fan of that series as well, and I can't help but think that 3D would be really cool for an arcade racer.

Anyone try it out?

  • If you're a fan of the series then it is a no brainer. I personally haven't played it but it has been getting the best reviews out of all the 3DS games.
  • I got it, haven't done much yet just a few races. If you haven't bothered with the series much in the more recent past (post-PS2) the tracks for the most part will be new so for me that's a boon. The analog works great for steering, d-pad can be used too. You can earn points in the game to buy new things, lots of stuff, read up on it. 3D in the game adds a subtle level of realism to the depth of the game. It's more like seeing a road and car out of a window, than seeing 3D like depth laid flat on a TV screen. That little change seems to give a better feeling to being in the mix.
  • I love this game! If you are thinking about it, you should go ahead and get it if you already have a 3DS.
  • Ridge Racer, yes... do it.
  • I picked up both SSFIV3DE (haha) and Ridge Racer and the winner of both is SSF by a nosehair. The online feature in SSF is just great and RR could have really implemented that feature as well. Trying to beat other's ghost is kind of lame.

But overall it is still a great racer. Never been a big fan of the series but I have really enjoyed this edition. It is also the only racing game I drive from the car front perspective. The 3D is a nice touch, but once again, you need to keep your head still to stay in the sweetspot.
