Best N64 Controller Pak?

Title says it all. I'm looking to find a couple of whatever THE best N64 controller pak is. I have heard that Nintendo never made any controller paks that didn't run on a battery (unless they are easy to replace?). 
Does this mean 3rd party ones are the best? What is the largest capacity for one that doesn't use a battery?

I'm trying to play through Mystical Ninja but I don't want one of mine to die on me xD

    You mean the batteries? I am not sure, but I'd get Nintendo. The easy to find PERFORMANCE red ones are JUNK. hasn't held a save one year after I got it, so just don't buy one of those.

    Yeah i've heard those ones are the worst. Right now i have 3 memory paks; a small grey official nintendo one, "Performance Memory Card for N64", and a black pelican one. Anyone know anything about those?

    I may be off on it as it has been years, but back in the day I remember clearly even when they were new the pelican and madcatz stuff was just as terrible as performance. Those off brand gamestop unmarked plastic swapmeet looking things held up better and that's not saying much. Just get an official one if you want saves to last.
