Limiting page length

Right now, viewing a topic shows a specific number of posts per page.

Is it possible to couple that with a maximum "page length"?  I don't know how that would work in the context of how the forum is programmed, but it would make "quote pyramids" a lot less problematic, I think.

    Not sure I figured that there would already be a preset limit but apparently there is not. I think that for the most part it is a very small issue except for the thread I assume you are talking about.

    Haha, yeah, it crops up pretty rarely, but I could see it being useful on pic-heavy threads, as well.

    ETA:

    Maybe a better idea would be to somehow introduce "folding" where posts greater than a certain length get smushed and have to expanded to view, otherwise they're out of the way and less distracting.

    I was actually thinking of just the opposite... I wouldn't mind an option to change from the default post-per-page count from 25 to other values such as 50, 100 and 200.

    I am pretty sure you can...I have my page length set to 50 posts...let me go see how I did it..

    Why not put 3-quotes inside a single button that says "show quotes" or something like that. Or take off the insane border margins.

    You can do that already, you can also change the number of topics you see per page. Look under Profile Settings > Forums Settings . I did this a long time ago, 25 was just not enough.

    Calculating the length of a given post would be a very painful (impossible?) thing indeed based on browser, font/zoom settings, screen resolution etc. Based on post count is a nice efficient way to do it.

    Quote pyramids shouldn't be a problem. You shouldn't have to make fixes where common sense is the solution.

    I think 3gen had a good idea about folding quotes when they exceed 3 nested quotes.



    That sort of thing should be trivial to autodetect.
