Retro/Modern Gaming Subsection

Out of curiosity, why is there not a retro and modern gaming subsection? I realize that the website is dedicated to the collecting of video games, but why not have subsections in the forum dedicated to the discussions based on the games themselves? Sure, collecting is fun, but we all collect AND play!

To be quite honest, when I joined the forum, I thought that (perhaps) some forum sections were hidden and only available to members like some websites do, and I thought this section would be under those "hidden" forums, but I guess you know what happens when you assume. I just find it hard to get involved in a community designed only to collect and not really centered around playing the games. I really want to get connected with a retro community, that's all.

Sorry if this came across rude in any way.

Take care!

  • This website goes by the motto "The simpler the better". Personally the lack of sub-categories is one of the reasons I like the site so much.
  • We've had a lot of discussions around the idea of having more categories, and it really just comes down to preference. To me, when I visit a forum that has more than 10-15 categories, I feel lost at sea. The categories create too much separation that dilutes the idea of a community. I want each shore to be in plain sight so I feel less intimidated sailing from island to island.
  • Dain: "King of Metaphors"
  • That's what Gamers Gauntlet is for. Talking about games, how to get past a certain boss, how to get past a certain level what games you've beaten etc. We talk about modern games too. Just not as much as the old ones.
  • Alright, thanks, guys. Sorry, I'm still kind of a noob here. (I haven't been on very much because of a poor internet connections through hotels and apartments during a move transition).

Those are all good points, though. So that makes sense. =)
