Thread Crap Strikes

Just an idea i was thinking of today. Ive been a member here for a long time, and it seems the more and more i see new users joining the site the more and more people are thread crapping and fighting in a FS thread etc. Which is a real shame because i know myself and other old timers  came to this site after dealing with this BS on other gamer forums like DP, Gametz, etc.

Anyways i know there isn't much to do about it, but what about putting strikes on user's accounts. Like for instance 3 strikes in a month and your banned for a month or something? At least make this place a little more presentable, and keep the thread crappers from constantly thread crapping. I dunno know, good idea bad idea? Any thoughts anyone?

Oh and maybe the TC (thread crapping) can show up like the hall of shame icon etc. Of course there will have to be set of moderators to determine "what is" and what's not" considered TCing

Not a big deal to me, but just an idea i felt like sharing.

  • I think as it is, they get warnings from mods and if they find that somebody is a chronic thread crapper they might do something about it. I'm not sure if it warrants a strike system though. Most new members might not really know better (which is why we should all read the FAQ) and as you said it's hard to determine what is considered thread crapping sometimes. A simple "dude, don't be a dick" probably works for a lot of these first time people. Interesting idea though, it's just that thread crapping doesn't seem (to me) to be a huge problem.
  • I know what you're saying but I don't think we can legislate "being nice."Plus who is to say what is a thread crap or not. Some are blatant and others are more subtle. Like when someone says on someones for sale thread "I got this game for way cheaper off Craigslist last week(insert smiley face to diffuse tension)" How bout shutting up? If you don't like peoples prices don't say anything. I think we would all be better served by just promoting an environment of friendliness rather than trying to put in place more rules.
  • I agree that there has been a bit of an issue with thread crapping lately, but I don't know that a strike system could be fairly implemented. I think the mods can determine is someone is being a dick and repeat offending on thread crapping and handle it on a case by case basis.

I think what's been really bothering me lately is people who thread crap by starting with "I know we're not supposed to thread crap but..." That shit is annoying.
  • I don't want to thread crap but this idea sucks! Seriously, we all need to grow up and be adults here, those of you that are not yet, please try your best. I have tried really hard lately and am proud to say I have succeeded . We all need to remember what mom always said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.".

I thought the say was "If you don't have anything nice to say, you're probably at the icecapades".

    Or your playing Superman 64.

  • If someone steals my money (SCUCCI), I will thread crap and talk shit about them all I want. I agree about not liking someone's prices though, its not cool to bust on them in a thread. If you don't like thread crappers than FOE that person and move on with life. The 3 strike rule is not a good idea, if you FOE someone they can't no strikes because they don't exist in your eyes.

I totally agree about people not following through on deals, they need to be called out, and tarred & feathered publicly.  To me that's not thread crapping.  The problem with foeing them is that yeah, your not going to see it anymore, but everyone else who hasn't foed the thread crapper still sees it, which still ruins the original posters thread.

    Hector,

No the problem is everyone bitches but they don't do anything fix the problem permanently.  Without a HoS which was a great tool when used effectively, anyone can pretty much do anything nowadays.

  • If prices suck, thread craps aren't needed....but still I'm 50/50 on them. I mean, we all crapped hardcore on those stadium events threads and stuff. But $5 or just a tad overpriced doesn't warrant it.

And while the HoS had negativity, the security it brought with it via the icon and reason was well worth it. Just like the drug addicts thread: you make the mistake even though common sense and respect says differently, you suffer the consequences.
  • I agree w skull....

Dont like the douchebag? Cant stand the asshat? FOE THEM and they are gone for good in your eyes...
  • I'd say that the Foe button is your friend.

But there's a lot of bitching and stuff in the mod section. We're watching. Especially in the shower.
  • haha cool, i somehow never knew of a foe button lol. learn something everyday? BTW where is it at?

Hell no, it's an ice cream truck I lifted. I've got no idea how to stop the damned music in this thing.

  • Hey Mark, if there are certain people you have in mind, don't hesitate to PM a mod. Odds are we already have mod watch on them but having more eye's never hurts bud. ~E~
