New Toy

Found this on craigslist, and had to have it.  Playchoice 10 double screen, with contra, tyson, tmnt, super mario 3, gradius, golf, tennis, 1942, metroid, and double dragon.

In pretty nice shape other than the control panel has obvious wear, and repair work done to it.  Don't have the keys to it, but got in through the joystick panel to find.....

A double dragon topper, instruction manual, and another contra.  Now I just need to figure out how to get into the back of the machine with no key.  If anyone has firsthand knowledge of how to do this, i would appreciate any help.  Also need to get into the change drawer, as I could see through the hole that there are still quarters, 2 hot wheels, and a nerf dart locked in there.  talk about a Bonus!!

  • Is that metal Double Dragon sign from an arcade unit? What is that from?
  • Very nice find
  • very nice!
  • nice! some guy on my local CL, has a single screen, kinda beat, and doesn't have any really good boards, and no extras. he wants $650 for it, and I had to give him the nay-no! Sweet find, looks like that one is in real good condition, joystick plate aside.

They made toppers for the playchoice 10s, this the double dragon one
  • Very nice sir. I've always wanted one of these. Yours looks to be in great shape too!
  • great find! some great games on it too!
  • I want a playchoice 10 when i have money
  • i want one too. some guy on my local CL is selling one, but wants way too much. He started at $2000, then eventually came down to $1200, which is still way too much.
  • Very nice... I'd love to get one of these some day.
  • Wow, nice indeed!
  • If I ever get rid of my playchoice countertop it will be so I can buy a dual screen
  • I wish I had never sold mine. Nice find.
  • That cab is awesome. I nearly bought a PC-10 last summer, but I refrained because I couldn't justify the purchase when I have most of the PC-10 games in NES cart form in my room.

I went with buying a Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo cabinet, which is housed in a standard Dynamo HS-5 cab. I love bringing this up because the arcade cab is the first thing I've bought with money that I actually made. I'm damn proud of it, even if it is in rough shape and I messed up the coin mechanism. I need to fix that.
  • so you have no keys to the machine, or just to the back?? I didn't have any handed to me for mine, and I ened up going the control panel and took off the locks for the change access from the inside. I ended up finding a key in there to access the back panel. It all was a big pain my ass.

    Good luck
  • Had no keys at all, but the control panel was loose from a previous repair. Ended up getting into the back, the lock was already disabled, had a couple of screws in the back. The change access had a free play button installed where the lock was, so that was easy to get into, had to take the box apart to get into the lower change box, but got into that too. Got $1.50 in quarters, and lots of button parts from the inside. Just need to repair some button issues and loose joysticks and I'm in business. Pretty pumped about the whole deal, just need to hunt down baseball stars and tecmo bowl and Ill be good to go.

Liking the PC10 owner award as well, that was quick!!
  • Thanks Scoggs...where exactly would that sign go? At the top of the arcade cabinet? Or is that for a sit down machine?
  • That's awesome!

It is for this machine, there are removable screws on top that hold it in place.

Got into the machine and was able to test the duplicate contra, and it works!  Everything is now up and running!  Now to get everything nice and clean, and switch out the blue buttons.

And if anyone is looking for a copy of Contra for their PC-10 let me know and maybe we could make a deal.

  • There is a guy on klov that sells playchoice keys. Go to their for sale section and search playchoice. It will be on the first page. Mine also came with no keys, but I just ripped that bitch apart. I wedged a screwdriver around the locking mechanism on the back and pulled, with minimal effort it popped open. If you want to sell or trade any games let me know. I'm interested in the Double Dragon, and SMB 3.

  • I, too, wouldn't mind getting a PC-10 at some point, as this was the first real arcade machine I can recall ever playing. I'd probably end up with a countertop variety, though, as while I'd absolutely love to get a dual screen, there's no way in heck I'd have room for it. Always great to see someone pick one of these up .
  • If it's a stock key set, you can pick up a set of Takigen 6510 keys. If not, or you don't want to wait, drill the lock out. Really not difficult.

Game Core, it's funny you should mention that, because I have the dual monitor version, and I'm looking to exchange it for the counter top.
  • siiiiiiiiiiiiick!!
  • I'm on my phone atm and looking for a quick reply, I'm wondering if PC~10 boards are the same as the 2sided red roof shaped machines? Or is that the counter top variety?
  • Wow, hope I can find an old arcade machine one day. From what I understand, arcardes were not that common here, so hard to come by here in Norway. Maybe I'll have to import one, but that is VERY expensive... Would be fun to try a arcade machine once.
  • That's an awesome machine man! Grats on the pickup!

  • ugh... i'm dying to get one!!! i'm finishing the basement this year and it will be the crown jewel!
  • Welcome to the PC10 family Def a nice looking cab. I need to get some more games for mine, esp Contra and Super C. Great pickup sir!

  • Other than the control panel it looks good.

Red tents were made for VS. System games but you can put a PlayChoice board in one.
