Super Mario Display/Sign Mega Find (literally) *LOOK*

Ok, I've been meaning to post this for awhile now but work and other activities have kept me pretty busy.  Nevertheless, here it is...short and sweet...my best find ever!  Because of my job, I work every Saturday and typically we are not busy at all so I spend most of my time surfing the internet and reading up on here about the lastest stuff.  This particular Saturday I came across an ad for a Mario display.  Hmmm, I thought...probably another 4 foot Mario Statue!  When I clicked on the link, low and behold, I saw this sign and my heart sank.  It was approximately 6 hours away in Illinois.  I quickly messaged the seller and as luck would have it he got right back with me.  We made a deal and 12 hours later this sign was mine.  This sign is approximately 5 feet tall by 4 feet wide and its in AMAZING shape.  I asked the seller where he found it and he said it was sitting in the back of a Mom and Pop consignment shop in Kentucky...the guy he bought it from said he had it for the past 15 or 20 years.  Anyway, here are the pics!  Enjoy!

  • Thats a pretty cool display there, never seen one like that personally. The shelving looks like it would hold CIB NES games, am I correct? Either way, fantastic find there buddy.
  • Wow, that's really nice! I've never seen this one before. Seems like it might be kind of cool to display some CIB games in. Awesome find man!
  • Very cool. Never seen that one. I'd be willing to pay you a buttload for it . LMK if interested. High Three figures.
  • Thanks everyone! Come to find out I think those racks were meant to hold Nintendo Power magazines. I've done some extensive checking and can't find anything on this particular display so I can't say that I'm 100% on that but that would be my guess. =)
  • That thing is sweet. Congrats.

From the size of the wire holders, I'd say you're correct. It's definately an uncommon display, that's for sure!
  • I've never seen that display and it's absolutely amazing. That's a centerpiece of a collection and something I would never sell... of course assuming I had room for it in the first place. Nice grab!
  • Congrats on that wonderful sign! I've never seen that one before!
  • Wow John you weren't kidding man! That thing is in incredible! I guess this is why you sounded so ecstatic on the phone as you described it! I have never seen that particular sign ever. Nice Nice score.
  • I remember seeing one of these when I was a kid, they had one at my Service Merchandise store, def a very cool looking display, and this is the first time I've seen it since then! Congrats on the awesome find!
  • Holy crap that thing is sweet! Just when I thought I had seen every single Nintendo sign/display, something like this pops up. The fact that it is officially licensed makes it 100x sweeter too! Unreal find! If you don't mind me asking, where did you find it (craigslist?) and what did you pay?
  • Thanks so much guys! I'm glad you finally got to see it Mark! Hey Penguin, Paul said you might know a little bit about this display...do you remember what was in the racks when you saw it at Service Merchandise? I've got a couple more signs I'll be posting soon...probably next Saturday LOL =P
  • very nice I am impressed

  • Excellent display John! It looks ten times better with the huge offical seal of quality on the back. Does it have a date on it anywhere? I'm curious when it was made. Maybe 1989?
  • looks to be in grate shape too
  • Now THAT is a display. Amazing find! Hope you have room for it!

From the design my guess is 1989-1991.
  • o_O Just when I thought I'd seen it all, something new and so drastically different surfaces... I echo Jonas's sentiment concerning selling this...*don't* do it. I'd venture to guess you'll probably never find another one like that in the wild, and especially in that condition.

Not only might he never find another one in the wild, he might never find another one period, considering not a single member has even seen this sign online before.

If I owned this, it would be the last thing I would ever sell.

  • I've been collecting for a decade now, and have NEVER seen that display. Congrats!
  • I am in awe. Now THAT'S a fucking display
  • Thanks again everyone for all the comments and compliments! I would guess this sign was made somwhere around '88 or '89 seeing as how the Nintendo Power magazines came out around that time and I think thats what this sign was used for. I'm glad you guys liked it and for those who are going to the CampOut, you can see it in person if you have the time...I only live about 30 minutes from Paul's house. =)
  • i want to see it filled with nintendo power magazines!

  • Man, I've been curious about a nintendo power magazine holder for a long time now! Glad to see there is something of the like, Although due to the space and how many slots it has, I'd think that would be for service information. No non-dedicated store would want to dedicate that much space to one magazine, and obviously past issues woudln't be sold so I'd think most slots would be empty.

Makes me wonder about the type of item I've beenl ooking for. Has anybody seen a black wire magazine holder that just says Nintendo Power on it? I'm looking for somethign that would hold just a few issues of one magazine and would sit on a counter.
  • Hey man I have been collecting for about 13-14 years now and never seen anything like that. If I was you I would never sell it but if you do need to sell it I would guess you could get 1500-2000 for it pretty easily from the right person. Dont sell it!
  • Oh I know this sign. I saw it on ebay within the hour it was listed, then someone contacted the seller and it was taken down...now I know who!!

Well...this is just sad...total sour grapes

Yeah, I think this thing is going to the top of my want list. I'd drop $1500-2000 on it, if given the chance .

  • Niiiiiiiiice
  • Damn, I too have never seen this piece. Mario displays are all awesome, but this one is one of the best by far! Very nice find!
  • DUDE! That is in great shape! Good on ya!
