  • I think this thread is ridiculous enough to stay open. I wish I had been here when the hilarity happened.
  • Good question nes_dude, I think it's tough to see a value based entirely on the value of the video game itself (say, 2x or 4x or 10x the value of the base cart), although what game the variant is for does add something tangible to the value.

This topic came up before when the first 3-screw Gyro was uncovered. I think generally we agreed that it was worth about $25-$35 at the most. The game itself has no intrinsic value, so that's all scarcity.

This game, I think we can take those numbers and add another $20 since Mega Man itself is a good game, it's worth that intrinsically. So I think $50 would be a good cap. Although this one's been so elusive, if people got into a bidding war (say, Al and I lol) it could go higher...but keep in mind, if there's one there'll be more, and there are VERY few collectors chasing these variants seriously.

Most people find their screw variants (which are very obscure) by just hunting and pecking through BIN's and lots, and get them for about the base value of the cart itself. Unless it's really something ridiculous, people aren't going to bid up one I don't think.

The blue/black CD/BG variants have gotten some attention, and they're very obvious variants, also they're a lot sexier than screw variants, so they get more of a premium. But they're in the same vein I think. Worth about the base value of the cart, plus a "variant tithe" of $20-$30 depending on scarcity.
  • Dan has had some priceless photoshops lately, your giving Batty a run for his money on some of his craziness.

  • Why do you guys even think that a 5 screw Mega Man exists? Is it because of the time period that the game came out? Has anybody ever seen a 5 screw Mega Man or is it just speculation that one SHOULD exist? If you ask me, I'd say that no such cartridge exists.

Same.  My guess would be that the original round-seal Mega Man run was done in the same factory that did SE and the other early 3 screw carts that have yet to be verified as 5 screw games, *despite* their date of manufacture.
