Ok I just got in the first of my two Section Z maps I have coming. The one I won from the post at the beginning of this thread confirms at least for me that this was a pack in and not a mail away. I won 3 games from this guy. All 3 have the plastic slit open and the boxes and contents look perfect mint untouched... still with all inserts and plastic baggies, etc. In fact these three are all so perfect I would say they would qualify for Wizard's list except that I didn't open them someone else did.
DETAILS:
The section Z box is the gold seal NON-Hang tab box. 3 screw cart, gold seal with code on cart, box, and book. Contents are flat black dust sleeve, plastic baggie, warranty card with code: CAP-NES-US and of course the coveted map with code of: CAP-SZ-US.
As this stuff is all perfect mint shape I am convinced that this was the one you need to find the map. If anyone is holding this one sealed you probably have the map.
Thanks for posting that Erik. I've been argueing for quite some time that this had to be a pack in, but never could determine what version had it, as obviously not every one did.
The sealed one I opened had the same sticker with it...so that confirms nothing. This mystery is really pissing me off!! Bronty do you have a non hang tab version? ~~NGD
What's the mfg date on the chips in Erik's copy? If it did actually come with the map, it should be some amount later than the one that Al just opened, right?
The only other clue as to timeline I can see is the name of Paul Biederman on the Section-Z map. He's also credited with the instruction manuals for Legendary Wings, Mickey Mousecapades, and Bionic Commando. That would put us in the 2nd half of 1988. Does his name show up on any other Capcom stuff? Assuming that he got credited for all of his work (which is probably a big assumption for this era), this puts a possible timeline into play for when the map first appeared.
