Sorry to hear about this mess Jone. It's a shame, since IMO, Jone is one of the best folks to deal with on NA when it comes to making a deal/purchase, and always handles it with the utmost integrity. I hate to see someone like that getting screwed over.

Let it be known that the MODs and ADMINs fully support Benihanas decision to lock the thread. hell i would have done it too had I seen it. We are 100% behind him (in more ways than one, giggty giggty).
Jesus Christ guys, this isn't a fucking lynch mob, so stop being assholes to a guy just trying to help out.
If he hadn't given such a generic response when he locked it, people might have been more receptive.
"If the parties involved have issues with how transactions are conducted on NA then contact mods/admins...But what goes on in the Ebay realm is not always the concern of NA. That is why NA has it's feedback system. "
If eBay is not the concern of NA then why do we have a 2 week rule on completed auctions? Oh I know, so people don't get backdoored. Well I did, and now I'm not supposed to talk about it. I just don't see how that makes any sense.
On the topic of mods, some are better than others. I'll leave it at that.
we are not trying to brush your situation under the rug, trust me. Communicate with us first and we will work with you so people know the guy is a dick. I think you make some very valid points and we need to take them into consideration.
I do think we should take it easy on the mods. These guys spend their time trying to keep the peace with NA. They do have to have thick skin and do eat a lot of shit half the time. I'm friends with a few guys who are mods or used to be on NA and they don't do as much anymore because it's time consuming and they don't want to deal with crap from the members.
Mods may overstep sometimes but there is a way to handle it. I know this thread started out as a question about mods being too quick to lock a topic but everything isn't always black and white. I know that when I needed help, a mod jumped right in to help me and it took up a few hours of his time. The mods are also collectors and pretty good people who are just giving back to the community they love.
I think the real issue here isn't whether or not the mods are doing a good job, but concern about their being a lack of HOS. I know I was very concerned when the HOS magically disappeared. Mr. Mark has expressed interest in taking it over again and he has proven to do the best job with it so why don't we just bring it back and give it to him? Frankly, I like that we have a forum created by collectors and run by collectors and I want to keep it that way.
I just think this thread is beginning to drag on and the real issue is about HOS and Jonebone being able to voice his concern about another member who violated the rules for NA. I think the mods should make a decision about this matter and close up this thread. The HOS should be brought back and the guy that screwed over jonebone should be put in the HOS as soon as it opens.
well, wait a minute though. i dont see that i did anything wrong here on on ebay, but especially here. what rules do i break?
i dont pimp my games with constant bumps to a FS/FO (ive never done one) and i dont promote my own ebay listings here (never done that either). i only contribute what i know and see and im willing to give the shirt off my back to a fellow collector when i can, not purely for the MAX profit from members here running WTBs. ask anyone ive sold to, and i even give free gifts.

Nintendopower_4_ever, that post was ridiculous. You complain about people doing things that are perfectly fine and normal/commonplace on this site, and then admit that you are backdooring people on eBay, which is considered to be one of the worst crimes among collectors here. Total backfire if you were trying to make your case any better.
I was wondering if anyone read my earlier post and has some thoughts on this part:
"...does a Hall of Shame necessarily have to be moderated? Why not just have a members only "flame section" where people can voice their problems, the accused can defend themselves, outsiders can read and formulate their own opinions, and everyone can argue in the thread, in its own sub-section, until they get tired of it? Why does there have to be any sort of arbitration? I am sure this has been discussed but I'd be interested to hear some opinions."
^ ^ If everyone just makes a separate thread for their issue (rather than cluttering up a single thread with off-topic flaming), I don't see how it could hurt people. Just don't read it if you aren't interested.

Without some level of arbitration it's just two people bitching at each other and the discourse is less useful than it otherwise could be.

I'm not saying there is truth to his claim, since I'm not stalking Jonas, but I don't think it's fine, normal, or commonplace to get BIN's added under false pretenses.
As a general rule, lying to get what you want is unacceptable in almost every context.
"i dont see that i did anything wrong here on on ebay, but especially here."
You backdoored someone on ebay and openly admitted to it. That is what you did wrong and that is why people are upset with you.
I checked the link you gave and I don't really understand what the problem with those questions are. Ultimately it's up to the seller to determine what they are willing to sell something for and whether or not they want to change and auction listing. The problem with what you did was that a contract had been formed and you made statements to the seller that led him believe that he shouldn't follow through on his side of the contract. What the seller did was wrong, but if you had never said anything to the seller then he wouldn't have broke the contract he had formed with jonebone.
"ebay auctions should run as auctions if they are listed that way, and anyone who tries to manipulate that all of the time for their own benefit cannot be not riteous when it blows up in their face."
That is not how ebay sees it which is why they allow sellers to change the listings. So I disagree with you there. If ebay decides to change their rules then it will be treated differently but right now there is nothing wrong with what Jonebone did. If you are really upset with what happened, you should have spoken to an ebay rep about it rather than backdooring jonebone. You also are a hypocrit with statements like this since what you did was manipulate the listing for your own benefit and now that you are called out int he open it is blowing up in your face. If you truly believe that what jonebone did was wrong, then two wrongs don't make a right. You doing something bad to get back at jonebone made the focus turn towards you and your wrong doing. The ends don't justify the means.

I was talking about him complaining about people bumping their for sale threads or pimping their eBay auctions. His post made it seem like this was some sort of evil greedy behavior. Obviously I agree that lying to sellers sucks.

I wanted to make sure you didn't miss the part where he claims lies were concocted to get BIN's added in the first place.
Arch: I saw that part, and if Jonas really tells sellers he needs their stuff for a birthday present that is kind of lame, but it certainly doesn't come anywhere near justifying what np4ever did.

Certainly two wrongs don't make a right. (if that's even the case, at all)
But (not speaking of the specific parties involved here, just "in general") I'd rate being a misguided vigilante as less offensive than being a liar.
ETA: again, I'm NOT speculating that Jonas actually did what the guy claims.
When I do something wrong (and I have) or I over step my boundaries, my Admins are there to let me know...That is their job...
NOT YOURS!
Not entirely true.
Part of being a responsible citizen is holding your leaders and police force accountable.
Ah, that would be true in a democracy where you elect your officials... Fortunately for me, I was not elected by the citizens for NA... Unfortunately for some, NA is more of a dictatorship, and today I get to be the DICK!
You're incorrect on this one, bud.
If we collectively decided that we REALLY dislikeda mod, I doubt it would be difficult to have them removed for the sake of peace and harmony on the rest of the site.
The mods aren't above the law, here.
You are right on this one. I know this more than anybody out there.

I don't pimp my eBay auctions on this forum, and I've given free gifts before too. For someone willing to give the shirt off their back to another collector, you didn't even donate to the site when it needed to raise money for servers. Not to say that everyone needed to, but please save us the explanation that you are better than others.
And there you go speculating again. I don't use "friend's birthday", but I do use the following line word for word sometimes:
"Hello! Just curious if you had any buy it now price in mind for these items? I'd be purchasing mostly as a gift and would love to speed up delivery if possible. Please let me know, thanks!"
Notice that I don't state any price, it is up to the seller. So how exactly do I lowball when I give the seller the chance to name their price? "Mostly as a gift" might be a BS line, but it is no different than calling something Rare. It's not like I'm saying that little Johnny is on his death bed and wants nothing more than a Nintendo 64. I'm not exploiting human emotion, I'm simply providing compelling justification for speeding up delivery. But, since this bothers you so much, I'll simply go with "I'd love to speed up delivery" next time. I could care less, it's just a generic line.
Not sure what that link is trying to prove? I don't do merchandise like that if you thought that was me. But yes, we all know that "rare" items get BINs offered instantly. Placing your 1 penny bid definitely isn't goign to deter a seller from thinking it over. If you're so bothered by it, place a legitimate bid at the start so maybe it jumps and the seller will let it ride.
Just gonna mention my own experiences with nintendo_power_4_ever here...
A few months back, I bought a GoldenEye NFR on eBay for $60. It came with a Pilotwings 64, and was originally up for auction, but I PMed the seller and got him to add a BIN so I could take it right away. A few days later, the seller contacts me and says this:
"Hello Did you get the games? Dude,I don't know what I started with selling this to you but there is this other ebay member Pete "Nintnedo Power 4 ever" that emails me constantly Mother F-ing you and Me because we screwed him or something? He always says how you beat him out of all the NFRs. Its hilarious. He sounds like a 2 year old. He emails like 5-6 times a week. Now he is bidding on my other auctions and threatining to leave negative. He is such a bitch. Anyway I thought it was a funny story. Take care and I hope to do business with you again. thanks."
I contacted nintendo_power_4_ever on this site about this, and this was what he said:
"i dont really care you won it but i give people a hard time that end auctions early.

yes, but i had that in my watch list right away and you did the exact thing im talking about lowballing the guy with a BIN to end an auction.
i wanted the game for my collection and you just took and sold the EXACT game on here FO to another member here and even tried to profit off of me with another game you had a BIN added to also on ebay, rogue squadron.

i told you clearly i dont like ended auctions and i will fight for them. why is this stuff ok?
And this is back to the jealousy / spite. So if he gets a good deal, he has to pass it at cost to another member? Especially on something that is in demand like NFRs?
You do too much stalking for your own good. If you pay $80 for a $100 game, you should be happy. Instead, your thinking is "He got that $100 game for $10, so he should be selling it to me for cheap." Some people might do that, but you certainly aren't entitled to getting the game cheap just because you know what the seller paid.
Actually, the price I paid for that GoldenEye was probably fair, given the condition it was in. It was maybe a little less than the NFR is usually worth, but it's not like the seller cared. He knew it was in terrible condition and was really happy with the price I offered him, so he sold it to me.
I'm obviously gonna be able to make a small profit here because, like jonebone said, NFRs are in high demand, especially the stupidly rare ones like GoldenEye. And I think the price I sold it for here was totally fair, and I'm sure the buyer would agree with me on that.

I'm not saying there is truth to his claim, since I'm not stalking Jonas, but I don't think it's fine, normal, or commonplace to get BIN's added under false pretenses.
As a general rule, lying to get what you want is unacceptable in almost every context.

I know this more than anybody out there.
well, wait a minute though.
i dont see that i did anything wrong here on on ebay, but especially here.
what rules do i break?
i
dont pimp my games with constant bumps to a FS/FO (ive never done one)
and i dont promote my own ebay listings here (never done that either). i
only contribute what i know and see and im willing to give the shirt
off my back to a fellow collector when i can, not purely for the MAX
profit from members here running WTBs.
ask anyone ive sold to, and i even give free gifts.
ebay
auctions should run as auctions if they are listed that way, and anyone
who tries to manipulate that all of the time for their own
benefit cannot be not riteous when it blows up in their face.
that is
the game you are playing with adding lowball buy it nows and you cannot
really cry because the seller might make the money from their own games
instead of you.
it isnt always your "friend's birthday and you need to expedite the purchase by adding a buy it now"
that is one of your favorites i see you asking all of the time in the Q & A
i am very tired of seeing those kinds of qestions all the time on everything good or it just disappears.
here
is a perfect example. i bid a penny on right away just for shits and
giggles because it looked neat and i thought about wanting to try and
win it later.
dirty fucks.

I'd be purchasing mostly as a gift and would love to speed up delivery
if possible.
"i dont really care you won it but i give people a hard time that end auctions early.
im actually kind of an asshole sometimes!"

Definitely not a fan of that tactic.
Still, doesn't justify what was done.
Just gonna mention my own experiences with nintendo_power_4_ever here...

yes, but i had that in my watch list right away and you did the exact thing im talking about lowballing the guy with a BIN to end an auction.
i wanted the game for my collection and you just took and sold the EXACT game on here FO to another member here and even tried to profit off of me with another game you had a BIN added to also on ebay, rogue squadron.

i told you clearly i dont like ended auctions and i will fight for them.
why is this stuff ok?

Why is it not OK to get a seller to end an auction early? The seller is free to do whatever they want with their item.
From the general complaints you have, it sounds like you have issues with covetous. You should probably work on that, you'll be happier.
da-rama!
Yep yep.

And this is back to the jealousy / spite. So if he gets a good deal, he has to pass it at cost to another member? Especially on something that is in demand like NFRs?
You do too much stalking for your own good. If you pay $80 for a $100 game, you should be happy. Instead, your thinking is "He got that $100 game for $10, so he should be selling it to me for cheap." Some people might do that, but you certainly aren't entitled to getting the game cheap just because you know what the seller paid.
nintendopower4ever sucks
jonas does not
what do we do now?
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Feel better now? How long were you backed up?
I'm obviously gonna be able to make a small profit here because, like jonebone said, NFRs are in high demand, especially the stupidly rare ones like GoldenEye. And I think the price I sold it for here was totally fair, and I'm sure the buyer would agree with me on that.
