  • Ok I'll give you that IF Caltron is legit than Myraid is legit.

Soooo what makes Caltron legit and other multicarts not, besides being on Etlers list.

  • Sorry about not being clearer, the asterix is to say that it there but not quite (like the old home run record was, it was the record, but not). It's complete in that I have a version of all the carts, but not truly complete because it's not a real NTSC copy.

That said, I think they are both legit.

  • I think because it had a USA distribution within the system's lifespan. Even though most games are made overseas, things like Sachens were not only post-mortem, but also weren't distributed in some sort of commercial fashion in the USA (be it even mail-order).
  • I think its just a label varation but since it has its own manual and box I think I would like to have one for my collection. but that said not til i find one for 90 percent less than the going rate lol

There were Sachens found in the US prior to collectors stumbling upon the Sachen website. Besides Sachens there were many multi-carts that were certainly made for US buyers that are not included. You could find them for big prices at flee markets and rental stores back in the day. Nintendo Power even had a warning in the magazine about them.
  • Interesting...seems like we've found ancient evidence of the NA effect before NA even existed, it's been hyped up even without the direct help of Etler image

Lol I wonder if he knows just how many times a day his name is typed and/or read on the internet lol

Well having the first accurate NES rarity list for years and then finding that stash of Cheetahmen II helped.

Nintendo wasn't always a serious collectable. When I started out there were threads on the newsgroups where guys asking about the NES would get a little bashing for asking about non-classic games. The CMII carts Etler had he sold for less than $10 a pop. I bought a case or two myself. Some people would resell them on eBay and as far as I know he never raised his prices.

From what i've played, other multi-carts are mainly hacks and shit ports of LICENSED NES games.  Caltron is multi, sure...  but it has unique games that aren't found cart only in the US.

Maxi 15 is a legit unlicensed Multi... so why not Caltron?  unique games to me are official... although they are very similar to many games, they are unique.

What about that Arcadia cart you used to have (or do you still have it?)  wasn't that a licensed multi-cart?

    Good topic.

    Arcadia is sold.

  • So, the last time this cart went up, it sold for $860. Anyone care to guess what it goes for this time? I'll say $950, considering the Caltron CIB went for $910.
  • the reason for me on why its makes it hard to be a unique title, is that deep down inside it is caltron, just has a reprinted homebrewed label on top of it, and some people made a new box and manual for it. Honestly it would be the same as if everyone at NA took 1,000 Mario bros./duck hunt carts and then made our own label, box and manual. Then stuck the new label over the old one and say licensed by nintendo age, and have a limited Nintendo age "variation" label to put on top of the same game. Because wasnt myriad just a a bunch of programmers doing something that was probably illegal at the time anyways. Plus members here probably know more about Nintendo games than they did. think about that?

And now you do! Excellent score!
  • Yay! So, anyone got a box/manual FS? image

There was a resounding laughter heard round the room immediately following this comment image .

Anyway, looks like this guy had a couple nice results (the Myriad at $910 and SE for $1450), but it seems like a few of his others were sub-par to par at best (Caltron for an anemic $152, Flintstones 2 for a mediocre to fair $197, Maxi 15 w/manual for an atrocious $39) :/ ...

  • ^^^ He may have made a little less than some of the big titles have been going for lately, but he bent more than a couple people over on his repros.

Aside from the Maxi 15, I don't really think any of those prices are that low. Aside from the two F2 carts that ended on the same day, and Pedro's store sale, I don't think too many copies have gone much higher than 200. I was watching them for a while, and I saw a couple end in the 130-150 range. Caltron always pops up in stores, and we all know that if you let something sit with an inflated price long enough, SOMEONE will buy it. 152 is a little weak, but not terrible for an open auction. I'd say he got about the going rate for his SE as well.

I'd say his ridiculous auction format hurt him worse than anything.
  • I'd agree that the auction format really hurt the results. I ended up with both they Myriad & Caltron and didn't expect to win the Caltron (my bid wasn't that high). Anyway, happy I finally have a Myriad and found a companion to my lonely Caltron manual. image
  • ^^^ Oh yeah, in all of the long winded crap above, I forgot to congratulate you on your new purchases image I'm sure you're glad to have them out of the way.
  • ^^^ Thanks! Definitely feels good to get them out of the way. Still need boxes for both, which is going to be a side challenge for a while.
  • Congrats on the pickup, espcecially because who knows when the next myriad is gonna pop up for sale.

I picked up the Maxi w/manual - just need the manual so I'll have an extra cart if someone needs it. Kinda surprised it went that low too. Thought it might be closer to $65ish.

    MLN'er
  • By the way, found out that the SE turned out to be a non-paying bidder so it's probably going to show up again.
