Tips on storing NES Manuals??

Hey Guys, i was just wondering how do you guys store your NES Manuals??? Ive been looking for something that has like seperators in it and are lettered like A, B, C etc, but havent had any luck? Basically i have all my manuals in one of those little clear plastic tubs they sell at like walmart. Which is ok but it sucks having to flip through all of em to find the one im looking for. Plus i play my games a good bit and its always cool to have the manuals at a place thats easy and convenient to find. Any ideas of where to find something like this, and how much?? Also anyone have any pics of their setup? Any ideas would be great thanx!

to store your games or your manuals?

plus i kinda am looking for something where the manuals just sit in rows, that way they wouldnt get damaged or smushed between a plastic case. Thanks for the advice tho :-)

  • I use 3-ring binders myself, with the manuals being held in plastic sleeves (just as one might store his baseball card collection, only different size sleeves, obviously). The sleeves keep them protected, and you can find what you want easily enough by flipping through the binder like a book. My manuals are taking up 8 binders right now, and I'm guessing I'll need 2 or 3 more to hold all 800-ish manuals in the US set.
  • I keep my manuals in the boxes with the games image. But when I was in the process of trying to put my collection together I kept the manuals in a cardboard filig box.. one the same size as you would keep index cards in worked pretty nice
  • Yeah, I use the plastic rental boxes as well. You could store them that way and have one for each letter of the alphabet. That would be pretty easy. They don't get damaged in there, unless you are careless when you close them.
  • here are mine.. i have them all in nintendo black sleeves, in a rubbermaid container i also plan to put a card in between each letter group stateing the letter, this way it will be super easy to find manuals if i need to..

  • I keep mine with the boxes, but I'd thought about using photo albums, since the slots are perfectly sized for most manuals.

  • I just keep mine in the game boxes as well. Even if I have variant manuals, like the * or -1's I keep them all in the games boxes for now.

  • I keep mine inside the game boxes. Duplicate manuals I have stored inside a sturdy cardboard box.
  • yup i u collect complete games keeping them in the box is the way to go.... by the way dain your collection is the nicest there is man...
  • yea i actually have the ones i have the boxes for in their box, but i actually hate messing with the box just to check out the manual. Because most of my boxes i have are in plastic cases too. And i actually play my games alot and i like to check out the manual for games i really know nothing about. So in my case ....storing in their boxes istn for me yet. I wanna get something going like Nes king, but yes with organizers. ill look around at office max this weekend and see if i can find like an index car organizer or something. The binder idea dont sound too bad, but would kinda take up a good bit of room with 8 binders. thanks for all the suggestions though! :-)

Bingo! And that's why binders are best for those of us who actually play our games: you keep them safe and have quick access to them at the same time (not to mention the fact that it's a spiffy way to display them too). I actually keep my carts separate as well, so everything is available for easy access on top of looking great when not in use image
  • The binder idea is genius. Im gonna get some binders today.  I have OCD when it comes to my NES stuff.  I could put my manuals in alphabetical order in the binders.  Perfect!
  • Not to mention leave gaps for games you don't have manuals for yet image Only problem I'd see is the tall manuals, but I suppose you could use a bigger size sleeve for those image

As for whether I store my games or manuals in the cases, well, it's the manuals. Only have a dozen cases or so image I keep my CIB's together, so it's just manuals from cart/manual sets or orphan manuals that are stored this way.
  • I keep all my manuals in the boxes with the games. I am keeping the variant manuals I find as well. I have a 6" tall stack of -1, -2, -3, *, -1* that I keep in alphabetical order on my shelf.
  • hmm yea the binder idea is sounding more and more better lol. i think im gonna look into that. And yea Morbi, i think we are on the same page, as far as the way we collect and keep our games etc. I know we both cant stand to have an empty box sitting out collecting dust LOL, and i keep all my games separate from the boxes as well for easy access to play. So if you think its a good idea for the binders your prolly right. What exact binders do you use and where could i find some that fit good for nes manuals and hold em in place? lemme know. thanks bro!
  • I myself just like to store them in their box, and if I dont have a box, put them in plastic photo pages. They are protected well, and look good to view as well. If I need to read them, I am scanning them and putting them in a Powerpoint presentation, and will probably print them out in a readable thumbnail form. If you dont want to access your computer, has anyone had luck using those digital photo frames? Do they have enough storage available to do some low res scans?

For binders, 3" is a nice size, give or take, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that you want binder's whose rings have a straight side so that they are sort of in the shape of a "D". Avoid binders with "O"-shaped rings because it makes storage of more than a few sheets much more awkward and sloppy.

As for sleeves, just go to a photo store and they should have a wall display with sleeves that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I get mine from a store called Blacks, but I'm in Canada so I don't know if it exists down where ever you are. Just remember that you need to accommodate two manual sizes: standard and "explorer's handbook."

    Hope that helps.
  • OK Just for an update on my quest here lol>>>

I went to Dollar General and they have these little photo albums there that seem to work perfect. They are back beside the picture frames, and come in a few different colors. They have a letter on the front of them. Anyways i bought one and it holds nes manuals Perfect! and looks great too! I believe this is the way im gonna go. Oh and guess what! Each photo album is only $3.00 !!! Cant beat that lol. And they will hold 160 NES Manuals Each! So i think im gonna just buy 5 of em and put all the manuals in alphabetical order, and have different binders for different sets of letters. Oh plus they are small and dont take up much space, plus easy access for manuals. Plus no binders in them. The pages are like stapled in. So thanks again Morbis for the idea and im glad i found something :-)

Oh by the way they will only hold standard sized nes manuals (not the tengen ones etc. Might have to get a bigger binder for those :-)
