Need Some Ebay Help and Tips

I've decided to finally start selling m y collection. I havent been on ebay in a couplem years.  I used to buy and sell all the time on there.  I just wanted to know if anybody had any advice to help me out and maximize my profit.

  • Use ebay as your selling venue of last resort. It's too expensive and too risky, much more so than it used to be. Sell as much as you can on craigslist, user group forums, GameGavel, etc. The only things worth using ebay for these days are: (1) as a pricing resource, (2) for exotic items that might ignite a bidding war, and (3) for common items, perhaps sold in lots, that you can't sell elsewhere. As a suggestion, price your craigslist/newsgroup items ~20% less than the going ebay rate - you'll end up with nearly identical profit and less stress.

  • does gamegavel have enough people oin it to really have enough people bidding to get a good price for things?
  • The answer is still no, unfortunately. I see that most people just use a fixed price or high starting bid there.

    As for maximizing ebay bids:

    - list everything as individual items

    - combined or free shipping
  • i really just want to get rid of everything. I was just gonna start everything on ebay at 99 cents and hope for the best.

I think you should do this, and then let me know when the auctions are up

You could always try selling here on NA.

  • I'm gonna attempt to sell some stuff on here first.  Its been so long I cant even figure out how to get pictures on here anymore.  I used to buy and sell on here everyday.
  • Pricing is not a problem on Gamegavel. It is the same story as it is on every other Ebay alternative site.... Tons of window shoppers /tire kickers but no buyers. I have had items priced on the gavel way below ebay or amazon prices go untouched for weeks on end while the same items placed on ebays get snagged in a day or two. I am glad socalmike is still fighting the good fight. I suggest you become a member of the forum groups dedicated to each system. Use your feedback here (and other forums you are a member of)as a reference. Increase your craigslist presence like the slamster said.
  • Don't use Game Gavel. It's the best site like that out there, but you're going to get the most exposure and profit from eBay, face it. And it's not risky at all, people have problems, but others, do not. I've used it since it essentially first started and I've never had a problem that wasn't resolved by eBay. Never had any problems selling, either. Just make sure you divide anything that's worth a bit more, sell it separately, TAKE THE TIME TO DO IT. Don't just do a lot if you have good stuff, good way to lose overall profit. If you just have the regular blah, lot it up.
  • Best advise when selling on eBay: BE HONEST!

Show all the flaws, no matter how minor they are. Ebay is 'risky' only to those who are dishonest. Your buyer won't, and shouldn't have to, put up with dishonesty.
  • Oh yeah, totally Seg, no doubt. ALWAYS BE HONEST. If there's any little nick, scratch, anything, MENTION IT. My buyers have always appreciated my honesty. I usually only show one main picture, which is all you need, but I always detail anything that would bother me, and I'm really picky about damage.
  • I know somebody that is looking for sealed NES SNES and GB games if you have any

    ^^^^ME^^^^
  • FeeBay isn't risky? A dishonest buyer can bid any amount to buy something, file a phony complaint when it arrives, mail back anything (broken game, empty box, dog turd, whatever strikes their fancy) as long as it has tracking, and keep your item along with a full refund. Ebay/Paypal will side with them every time. And then you can't even leave honest feedback to warn off other sellers. None of these risks exist on craigslist. Just use common sense when meeting up with buyers (well lit public places are good).

  • Yeah look at my sig then tell me eBay's not risky.

    What happened?
  • Yeah, explain please, because the sig certainly doesn't.
  • Also aren't ebay fees much smaller on auctions than they are on fixed price/ Buy it Now?.  For good items, they'll get bids.  Don't put a Buy It Now

If someone ripped me off for $13k you bet your ass I would hunt them down. I don't care how much money I had.
  • I still want to know what this big eBay rip off was. Is my computer not showing something in the sig?
  • How the hell did you get ripped for 13k

This is by far the most important. When buying on eBay, and even on the Amazon Marketplace, I've paid more (significantly in some cases) for an item that had a complete, well-written description of the item. Put as much information about the items as you can, use plenty of whitespace (if you're setting a lot, list them line-by-line not in a paragraph), and real photos of the item.

You get one free image from eBay so if you take multiple pics (ie, front and back, close-ups, etc), use image editing software to make them into a collage to save money.
