Odd problem with an SNES system

Heya,

I recently got an SNES system that has some weird issues. I cleaned the pins on the system, popped in a Super Mario World, and it worked fine. I decided to play for a few minutes just for fun and I found out that Mario could walk through walls in the levels. I figured it was just a dirty game, so I got another copy of Super Mario World, popped it in, and it had the exact same issue. I've never seen this happen before. All horizontal blocks and walls have the normal effect, but all walls that are vertical apparently have no effect on Mario. He literally just walks through them (and then usually falls to his death). I know it's not the game because it's happening on multiple copies. I've also cleaned the system's pins out really well, but it still happens. Any idea of whats up? Or how I can fix it? This is a first for me and I've been through many a system.

Thanks dudes.

  • Maybe you got some crazy debugging system?
  • Have you tried any other games out on it?

Haven't had a chance yet, but I'll try to tonight. I just think it's a really strange error. Other than the walking through walls, there are no graphical glitches or anything out of the norm.

Welp, tried another game. Had a Castlevania IV laying around. Same issues, except now, I can walk on air! (still walk through walls, though can't walk through everything). No other noticeable glitches. Anyone else gotta clue?
  • So much weird stuff going on with SNESs these days.

Genesis too, I just had it out with mine last night.

Well, huh, that's an interesting problem to have to say the least. Anyway to open the system up and dust off / clean up the PCB? Hopefully it's just a cleaning job and nothing that's just gone bad.
  • Dude, I want that system! XD Can you make some videos? This all seems very interesting to me.
