Dusty Diamond's Softball

Never really paid attention but both boxes that I've owned (including the one I just got today) have both had the REV-A on the front of it with the normal NES-B7-USA code on the tab. Is there a version that doesn't have the REV-A on it? I know that would mean that the REV-A would more than likely be a -1 then but why is it on the box? Just curious is all.....

  • Both of mine say Rev-A on the boxes right below the Seal 'O Quality.
  • Hmm....guess they all came that way because both of mine are the same way.
  • Guess it got there OK?
  • Yep sure did image lol I just got home a little bit ago and it was in between more doors. Thanks Dan!
  • I thought the REV-A on the box was referring to the lack of a hangtag on the back. I haven't looked too closely, but my boxes with hangtags are the only ones that don't say REV-A by the seal. If anyone has both versions of a box, they should be able to verify that easily enough.
  • Holy Crap, this might have FINALLY answered a huge question for me pertaining to the 3 versus 5 screw Hang Tab versus Non-Hang Tab boxes. I have quite a few boxes with Rev A and Non Rev A that are both non-hang tab. HOWEVER and this COULD BE HUGE... all of the non-hang tab non REV A boxes I have ARE in fact games that have both a 3 and a 5 screw cart. SO what this leads me to think is that certain companies never made a hang tab box so they didn't put REV A on the box. Then when Nintendo stopped making Hang-Tab boxes they mandated every company the licensed to put REV A on the boxes. This would mean that for 5 screw carts like Star Force you would use the non REV A box for the 5 screw and a REV A box for the 3 screw. I think we may have solved a long-going mystery here tonight!!

Let me know your thoughts people!

  • ^ Well that was over my head... I always thought "Rev-A" meant the box contained a 3 screw cart; surely it's as simple as that, regardless of hang tab variations.
  • Basically that would be correct and fit the pattern. Hang-Tab boxes were for 5 screw carts. So non-hang tab non-REV A boxes would be for 5 screws from companies that did not produce hang tab boxes. I think we might have a winner here. Which would also be nice as it would remove a ton of boxes from my need 3vs5 screw need list.

I think it would be odd for them to add Rev-A on there because of what's inside of the box, I would think it would be relevant to a change on the box itself.
  • I have a non-hangtab box for Popeye with no code on the box. It DOES NOT say REV-A on it. It contains a 3-screw cart, also with no code. Guess that kills both ideas...

Well I see where you're going with this, but you seem to be ignoring the fact that Nintendo manufactured every licensed game themselves (including not just the cartridges, but all packaging as well) well into the 90's.

I still hold to my belief that Rev-A means a 3 screw cart is contained therein, until someone can open a single sealed game that proves otherwise, and I think it's just an unfortunate coincidence that the many factories that produced NES games began sporadically phasing out the hang-tabs at roughly the same time that the 5 to 3 screw conversion was taking place. Ergo, mass confusion all around image
