LSDJ and game boy pockets

Help Wanted!
I've read that using a flash cart with a game boy pocket drains the battery extremely quick. I want to use mine for LSDJ, is there a quality alternative other than using a regular DMG version?

you could prosound mod a gbc.

can only frontlight GBC's though, not backlight
