TG-16 Multitap Question

I picked up one of these and noticed the end is a female connector (not a male like all my controllers) and the TG-16 I have only has one port which is female. I looked online and saw like one picture that was small and appeared to have a male connector on the front of the the TG-16.

Did they have two models of TG-16? or is my multitap missing a cable?

  • What happens is that the metal part of TG-16 male connectors tear away from the plastic and rubber and get stuck in the controller port. It happens to controllers as well and is quite common. So, it's probably stuck in the PO's system.
  • Shit, looking at it more the plastic at the end it does look like it something came off it... can't explain the one pic I found but this makes sense. Time to find another, thanks!
  • Considering TG16 cables are just basic 8 pin DIN plugs w/8 conductor cabling (the DIN plugs are the common type too), I don't see why you couldn't just put a new cable in it's place. You could make the new cable 10ft long too! http://www.showmecables.com/ has everything you need. Cables are very easy to assemble and the Turbo Tap side would only need some soldering.

If this is over your head, perhaps you could find some local assistance? It's just I don't see why something should be thrown away when it's extremely easy to fix...
  • Hmm, never thought of just fixing it. That site is pretty sweet, guess I could look at just replacing the end on the cable or the entire cable. I will look into this though the cable may cost with shipping almost the same as a new multitap but It will be fun to work on it. There are a couple styles of the 8 port DIN which are spaced out different so I'll have to see which the TG-16 uses (270 vs 262)

    n/m just found this site - http://www.bestpricecables.com/nec-turbo-grfx-extension-cable.html

and can grab and extension which I can use and solder though its white but it is what it is

I believe those cables are for the PC Engine or Turbo Duo, they are not the same pin type as the TurboGrafx 16 (or European TurboGrafx). They might not work if you're plugging it into a regular TG16.
  • The TG-16 used a DIN and the PC Engine and Turbo Duo used the Mini-DIN, pretty sure my cable is missing the metal tip with the pins.
